Overview of FredoGuides

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Sketchup version: SU2017 and above
  • Platform: Windows and Mac OSX
  • LibFredo6: v14.3a or above
  • Usage: Free for the time being
  • Expiration: 31 Dec 2024

FredoGuides is an extension dealing with Skechup Guides.

It includes the following features

  • Guides Protection: Mark guides to prevent their deletion by the “Delete Guides” commands of Sketchup
  • Guides Visibility: Toggle the visibility of all guides in the current view. This setting can be saved by Scene.
  • Guides Color: Assign a color to all guides in the current view. This setting can be saved by Scene.

Installation of FredoGuides

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you have first installed LibFredo6.

FredoGuides is released as a regular RBZ extension file on the Sketchucation Site.

To download the RBZ file, use the red button on the right side of this page:

  • Download If your are already logged in.
  • Log in to get it! otherwise, in order to log in or to register to Sketchucation as a new user (this is FREE). Then you will be able to download the RBZ file.

Then, you can install the RBZ file from within Sketchup, via the Sketchup Extension Manager

If you are not familiar with the installation of Sketchup extensions and Sketchucation, it is advised to watch the video LibFredo6 installation.

IMPORTANT: Whatever way you choose, you MUST quit and restart Sketchup to get FredoGuides (and LibFredo6) properly loaded.

After the installation, you should have the following footprint in the Sketchup Plugins directory:

  • Language: English, French, Spanish [Oxer]
  • Menus: by default, it is installed in Tools > Fredo6 Collection > FredoGuides...
  • Icon toolbar: FredoGuides

Protecting Guides

This video gives an overview of the protection of guides against the global deletion by Sketchup.

  • Protect / Unprotect guides
  • Assign a stipple to protected guide lines

A selection is valid if it contains at least a guide in the current context, or a group / component containing a guide at first level. This applies to natural Sketchup guides and to protected guides

Contextual Selection menu

If there is valid election, then you can access the Protection via the contextual menu. If there is at least one Protected Guide, you will also get a menu for Unprotection. Menu entries apply to the selection or to all guides anywhere in the model.

Protection Studio

You can also use the main dialog box for Guide Protection.

The dialog box is not modal, so you can freely select / unselect guides in the model. The buttons for Protect Selection, Protect All, Unprotect Selection and Unprotect All will be enabled based on the current selection and the presence of natural and protected guides in the model
