We LOVE SketchUp! But the text, not so much...

Because SketchUp text is a "face me" object, it jumps around and will not stay put as you orbit your model. And because no two apps show text the same way, it is hard to get WYSIWYG text output to printers or CAD. So we invented FlatText.

This is lettering done Old School - using precise vectors instead of fuzzy bitmaps. ​ No more cleaning up your exported text in CAD. You can set the colors of the text, leader lines, and arrowheads - perfect for controlling line weights, or just jazzing things up! FlatTexts can have solid backgrounds, so that your text blocks out the stuff behind it, making your drawing more readable. Select from five built-in fonts and four arrowhead styles.

After you install FlatText, there will be two new menu items in your Extensions menu: "FlatText" and "FlatLeader." There are also toolbars with buttons for many of the commands.

An unlicensed (that is, free) version of FlatText performs just like FlatText Lite. Purchase a license to unlock all the power tools.

To get your license, select the menu command Tools->FlatText->License...

Version 4.6: Minor bug fix in FlatLeader. Also, when using FlatLeader to measure the area of a face, we now use the same preferences as the Text tool does for setting area units (square feet, square meters, etc.) and precision (0.1, 0.001, etc.).

Version 4.5.3: Fixed tool palettes so that they show only if you had them open the last time you quit SketchUp (instead of showing all the time). Fixed a bug in CircleText that was allowing multi-line text to be attempted.

Version 4.5.2: Added new parameter :vertalign to API textinabox to specify vertical alignment of text within the box as 'T'op, 'M'iddle, or 'B'ottom aligned. Default is 'M'.

Version 4.5.1: Fixed a bug where API call textina_box would sometimes place text a half line too high.

Version 4.5: Introducing the Stamp tool - Use this tool to place multiple FlatTexts without having to reselect the tool each time. Also introduces Formulas that will increment your text each time you stamp!

Version 4.4: Introducing AutoTag - Now you can automatically assign a tag (layer) to all new FlatTexts and FlatLeaders.
