Lumion 8 tests

Lumion 8 tests

Postby Paul Russam » Thu Jan 04, 2018 1:28 am

So, I got the Lumion 8 Pro 7 day trial today and so far .... COLOUR ME IMPRESSED!!
I know its expensive and requires a beast of a machine to run it properly but from just my few hours of playing with it today I can justify it totally (I'm not paying for it so its not that hard to justify)

:thumb: :thumb: Great renders indeed!! I still don't know what I should be more impressed with - the rendering quality itself or your models :D and somehow lumion managed to get rid of that "plastic touch" obviously.
What kind of "beast" ;) do you run? - or what would be right for lumion? and what about the render speed?

Meanwhile it's too flat and overexposed ( in case of cathedral). v8 could deliver a way more juicy output.

My current machine is my Apple MBP running Windows10 in boot camp, it scores so badly in Lumion’s performance test that instead of warning me it apologised out of embarrassment :? It’ll be good enough to test Lumion though.

Prior to me producing the above I’d never used Lumion 8 before so I’m quite pleased with what I managed to get done in 5ish hours sitting on my sofa at home whilst munching a pizza. I have had a couple of hours on Lumion 7.5 so I wasn’t a complete Lumion virgin ;)

The church model came out overblown simply because of the way I’d built it back in 2011, as it was an internal only model, I never gave the external walls/roof any thickness to keep the size down. Lumion doesn’t do double sided materials so it’s ignoring 99% of the surfaces that would normally block sunlight.
I’m not bothered though as this it just a test, if it can handle that model on my MBP I’ll have no probs on a better machine.

I’ve got 7 days to play with the demo so I’ll get more tests done and post anting I think is interesting here.

Opps, forgot to mention rendering times, my MBP is an i7 with 16gb, it spat the above images out at 1920x1200 (I think) in about 3-5mins each, I think that’s damn fast to be honest, I also did a video of the house in HD res that it rendered in a similarly quick fashion.
