2d tools change plane
-
just started using 2d tools, it seems to only draw on the green plane and even more than that, even if I draw a line on the blue plane and then change its style with 2d tools, the changes to the line can only be seen by looking down on it like it was a line drawn on the green plane??

A face has a front and a back.
When you 'style' an edge that is associated with a face the styled-linework is drawn over the front of the face.
In the examples you illustrated the visible side of the face is shown blue-gray - which is the back, if you orbit around and look at the other side you'll probably see the styling ?To orient faces properly select them and use the context-menu to 'Reverse' them, before styling.
Alternatively, select the edges to be styled and copy by grouping, edit the group and style them independently of the face.Edges without faces are styled oriented upwards.
Edges with two faces at different angles are styled on the face that is facing the camera... -
thanks for the reply, not sure why my pics are not showing
inline, what I selectedorbiting shows 2d styling from top down or bottom up, but not
reverse sidenot sure what context menu you talk about, I think I tried
all selections but don't see any 'reverse'

thanks for the reply
not sure where the context menu is? I think I looked at all
the menus and drop downs and didn't see anything labeled reverseI can see the style changes by orbit but not behind, they show from
above or below.I will be drawing adjoining rectangles that represent an exterior
wall construction and want to insert lines in between them representing things
like house wrap and caulking.the lines that directly show styling are drawn on the red plane however
rectangles react kinda strange, see picI don't care which plane I draw the objects on if I can get all lines to show
styling whether lines or shapesjust an aside, can't figure out how to get images inserted inline, this is what
post content has before submitting, that is the name of the file I uploaded in between
the attachment tags

The context-menu is accessed through a right-click.
If a face is selected beforehand Reverse is listed... -
thanks again for the ongoing follow up
after selecting the line I want to style and right click see
pic for the context menu that comes up
there is no reverse on it or any of its sub menus/drop downs
I'm using sketchup make 2017, maybe reverse is included in my installation?do lines have edges and faces like more complex objects such as rectangles?
googling around and reading forum posts I haven't seen anything to isolate edges on lineswhen you say "To orient faces properly select them" how to that as opposed to
selecting the object? -
Basic geometry consists of edges and faces
A face is always bounded by edges - it cannot exist without them.
But edges can exist without any face associated with them.I said to select the face an reverse its orientation.
Unless you select a face there's no 'Reverse' in the context-menu.
Selecting an edge on its own won't do what you want...'Flat' edges will style with the styled-geometry facing up.
If an edge bounds a face, then the face's orientation determines which way the styled-geometry faces - that's why reversing a face affects how its new styling appears.
If an edge is shared by more than one face then the face that's most squarely oriented onto the camera is used for the orientation of the styling...
