Smit Panther ASD TugDecided its been a few years since my last project, been wanting to do one of these since I first saw it!
Smit Panther is a ASD Tug 3213, She is 32.44m Long and 13.3m Wide. She has 7268hp, 85 ton Bollard pull and a top speed of 14knots. The Goal of this project will be game implementation ( Currently VSF ) and of course as a Sketchfab showpiece to join the rest. She will be modeled & Base Textured in Sketchup, UV Mapped & Baked in Blender, and final texturing will be done in Substance painter. Currently 21 Hours 20 Minutes in Re: Smit Panther ASD TugWow! One for the Finest Modeling rolls. Great boat too.

Re: Smit Panther ASD TugThanks Guys,
Been a crazy week so not much progress on the tug, but the hull interior walls and partitions are in, Engine room and steering room are ready for details to be added, redid the subsurf on the azimuth as I wasnt happy with the shape ( misread the blueprints ) Been working on the powerplants, here are some stats you can relate to vs. your car: Displacement Car: +-2.0L Displacement Tug: 148.0L Engine Dry Weight Car: +- 120kg Engine Dry Weight Tug: +- 19000kg Engine Power Car: +- 140hp Engine Power Tug: +- 3634hp The size is clear in the images shown below, and to top it off she has 2 of them! Images were rendered in Substance painter after I did a quick UV unwrap and applied some standard materials in Substance. The Engine is by no means complete, its just the basic shape before I started adding the details, model shown took 2 hours to model. Re: Smit Panther ASD TugThanks guys, trying to keep the pace up on this one but man there is alot to make! my guess is this is going to be around 150 - 200 Hours before completion!
Alot of the time has been spent on the interior which will only be shown when its looking semi decent, Work has started on the superstructure and those crazy exhausts! Fore and aft towing fairleads are complete along with the aft deck planking and hatches. Engine intake vents are shown as well, im not 100% sure how close to the deck they go at the moment as they are well hidden behine the aft towing winch, as soon as I can find some images or some reference I will adjust them if need be. This is the new shaped azimuth drive ( shown above ) Currently 37 Hours 44 Minutes in Re: Smit Panther ASD TugTremendous modeling and attention to detail.
So what are you using for reference? I'm assuming you have something more than the two photos at the beginning of this post. Just curious. Never mind, just Googled it and there seems to be a ton of reference material for this beauty. Looking forward to seeing this project develop. Re: Smit Panther ASD TugThanks guys, hellnbak even with what seems to be so much reference out there you will be surprised how some areas are hidden, I really dont like taking guesses with anything, thats why many hours are spent doing research on every part, me and my research department ( Thanks babe
![]() Not sure why RR has it mirrored, its correctly fitted on my tug as the real one is. What makes things even more tricky is many items have been added over the years that are not on the blueprints or on any of the marketing brochures, luckily they are small things. Progress so far includes many details around the aft towing winch, the winch itself ( not happy with that rope texture, will still be spending some time there ) and details on the funnels Currently 46 Hours 39 Minutes in Re: Smit Panther ASD TugExcellent work! It's been a while since a ship model was posted around here!

Re: Smit Panther ASD TugDecided to get the Engines completed, im happy with the LOD for these, its tempting to just keep adding detail, but there comes a point where you just have to decide..
The turbo was Subdiv. and the rest was hard surface.Theres a bunch of Decals that will be added later, but I will do all of them at the same time. Engine is currently at 35600 Polys. Currently 50 Hours 09 Minutes in Re: Smit Panther ASD TugCompleted the working parts for the azimuth stern drive (ASD) and cleaned up the interior walls.
At the bow the area is raised to allow 2 stories, goes half way above the main diesel tanks and then single at the engine room. Currently 51 Hours 46 Minutes in Re: Smit Panther ASD TugJust Completed the Aft Deck Crane, its a Heila knuckle boom crane type HLM 10-2S
Was modeled in the extendet position and folded as shown, was really nice folding all the parts when the models were ready! Ive uploaded the 3d for viewing here: https://sketchfab.com/models/6330bcc92c ... 5bd3083720 Currently 62 Hours 55 Minutes in Re: Smit Panther ASD TugCompleted the Mampaey 100 ton Towing Hook, added abit more weathering in the standalone model for effect, when on the tug it will be in better shape

Will still be adding the tow rope itself as soon as I can find a acceptable method to make a low poly version of it. Heres a Link to to the 3D: https://skfb.ly/6HuRQ Currently 73 Hours 27 Minutes in Re: Smit Panther ASD Tug"WOW" is very appropriate mate

Re: Smit Panther ASD TugThanks Guys, wish I had more hours in a week to throw at this!
My Guess is with the full interior Complete she will be around a million Polys, with probably around 10 4096x4096 Textures ( Each with 6 Different layers, AO, Normals , Rougness etc. ) Completed the Fire Monitors,I was dreading thes,e but they weren't as bad as I thought, only took 4 hours. Heres a Few Shots of the model where is is at the moment: Currently 77 Hours 46 Minutes in
