Re: [RELEASE] Beta 0.2.2

When downloading the exe I get a suspected malware detected message.
Most probably a false positive but I can't risk installing this on my work PC since every suspected malware message is forwarded to our tech department which means I will get a angry email from them and my boss...
Is there a way of preventing this with a signed exe or something? Else it would be good to have a "manual" installation alternative.

What's the detected "malware"? What does the error message say?
What is your UAC setup?

As for a manual installation alternative. Would a zip containing an rbz and a Library folder, along with a txt for instructions, do?
Instructions would say to install the rbz via the Preferences window in Sketchup, and to paste the "Library" folder in its proper location.

But I'm afraid it could be too complicated for new users.
If you have examples of other softwares or plugins that have .exe installers but provide a manual alternative, I'd be interested to look at them.

skatter_0.2.2_setup.exe is not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous.

If I click on "KEEP" I get a pop up saying:

Recover malware?
This file may be harmful to your computer.

Keep anyway or Cancel.

I have UAC set to the second lowest setting but at work I cannot change these settings at all plus our company's Virus tool can be rather picky with downloaded exe files.

That's why I think a zip file with a rbz with the library and installation instructions would be a good alternative to have.

I get a warning its an unknown author, no biggy really but not good if your selling stuff commercially, on the Thea forum people have got twitchy and refused to install unsigned apps, may of been Colimo which also used to throw false positives.. are you using Molebox?

Molebox is about the worst for false positives

Yeah I see the info, but the malware message is still there. It's not a big problem at home since I know that it's a false positive but it won't help at work since all these messages are automatically forwarded to our tech department.
And I would receive an angry email or phone call and have to explain what I'm up to.
In my opinion not a solution to the problem.

Yeah, the message is just there while I manage to fix the issue. I asked you to try again to see if the issue is still there.
Now I know it is :)

I'm having some problems with textures not showing up on the scattered geometries.
I have a couple of rocks that are textured with a jpg and they render fine with textures but when i skatter them they turn out white. Any idea what could be the problem?
I tried editing the textures in Photoshop and re applied them just to make sure there wasn't anything wrong with them.

Edit: I solved it by exploding the components so it works now. Must have been something wrong in the geometry.

Skatter uses the Component Definition of the objects you pick, not the Instance you actually picked. So if the texture is applied to the Component Instance, but is not present in the Definition, it won't appear on the new instances.

That's something I need to address (keep the material of the picked instance)

YES JIMINY PLEASE! NO JIMINY PLEASE!

What I mean is, that is a very nice idea BUT what if you could paint the instances with a set of random materials instead. If the user selects a painted component that material would get applied, but a list of alternative materials could be filled and randomized on those components with seed and everything...

That would be fun. Yellow, blue and green flowers from the same component...

Yes, these will come together. It's easy to randomly pick in a list of materials, what needs to be done is how to apply these materials to render-only instances...

I wasn't going that far as I think that depends on render engines. I was thinking of geometry components.

How about now? I have an intermediary script that declares the mime-type of the file.

Having a zip for manual installation si not really an option, as I need to create extra folders and set permissions for all the installed files and folders.
So I need to fix this issue.
