Group / Proxy insert

I had an idea but I don't know if its feasible..
Would it be possible, instead of having to click on the group(s) you want to scatter, to browse the computer to assign it a file to load/import when rendering? That way, the file would stay totally "clean". I don't know if it was clear enough...

There will be a library, so that may be feasible.
