The ideal place for beginners to get help using SketchUp
by ezdesign » Sun Feb 03, 2013 7:34 pm
Hello, This is my first post....exciting! I am an interior designer and work with Sketchup Pro. I am looking for a sketchup developer who can create a custom plugin for an application that would be in a 2D format (not an overhead view but rather an elevation/foreground view, something like a one-point, straight-on perspective). In using Sketchup we find that, although possible to create a wall elevation from a 3D model, it is a bit challenging as the image seems to want to convert back to 3D. Anyway, if there is anyone out there that is interested or knows of someone to work with on our project, I would appreciate it. I'm looking forward to participating in this exciting format! Thank you in advance, Cheryl Howard

This is my first post on Sketchucation -- I've been helped out so many times by just Googling in my problem and getting a Sketchucation forum page, that I thought finally I should just sign up and start participating in the community. This is the first forum I've ever joined.
I've also started uploading models to the 3D Warehouse for the first time as well as a way of giving back.
I'm part of a tiny design house in Bangkok, Thailand doing mainly interior design projects around Asia, but also many side projects.
Thanks for reading...

Hi All, just joined SkethUcation today and hoping to get a good skethucation here! sorry about the pun. Am pretty new to sketchup and have been practicing modelling in it for the last few months and got a good start on the basics by going through the tutorials on the Harwood podcasts which can be found on you tube...around 55 of them!! Fantastic for beginners like me.Am now getting to grips with the 3d modelling but would now like to make presentations in LayOut, which I'm finding a little harder. The main problem I have is saving the appropriate scenes in SU, ie section cuts principally, so I'm hoping to pick up some tips here.

Hello, I'm new to SketchUcation and I've been using SU Pro for about three years. I'm an interior designer and casual architect and I also enjoy furniture design, landscape design, industrial design, the fine arts, etc.. A few of you may recognize me from my previous posts to the Help Forum and my occasional frustrations with SU; fortunately, with help from more experienced users as well as my tenacity to try to figure things out, my SU use has been very gratifying. I currently use SU nearly every day and have had great success utilizing Layout to create construction documents. The benefit I've derived from SU has been immense and whenever I show an architect, designer, engineer, tradesperson, technician or co-worker the intended design (walk-though and rotate), they say, "Wow, that's a really useful tool!" I look forward to catching up on my reading here and I promise I'll try to not be frustrated online when I encounter something I think SU should be able to do, or do with more effectiveness. -Paul

Hi all and welcome!
@Dean: post your scene frustrations in a separate topic (so it does not get buried here). BTW you are talking about SU scenes in LO however your profile says you have SU Free. Is it the trial period?

Gai I'm trying out Layout on the free trial to see how I get on with it. Will search through the forums for tips. At the moment I'm trying to find a good method of getting floor plans and sections from my model in SU into Layout. Thanks Dean

Hello Everyone,
I am a designer in a residential design/build firm that specializes in sustainable, high efficiency design. I am looking to increase my modelling skill through the use of plugins and working knowledge that I hope to find here. Thank you for having this website and forum. It looks like there are many skilled modellers here already.

Hi there, I'm Rino (you'd never have quessed ) I have worked for some 14 years as a VB.net programmer but got thoroughly sick of it. When my boss started making noises about having to size down I was off and now I am doing paintless dent repair and reviving headlights, a bit of a change and I'm loving it! I found sketchup looking for something to create 3d printing files, awesome program! Very much new at it, and learning every day, I am starting to sort of make it do what I want I imagine this is what's used to put the buildings on google maps and that is why this is now free so hopefully people will make more? Can I put my house on? Kind regards Rino New Zealand

Hello SketchUcation
Been using 2D CAD for space planning (mainly commercial offices) for too many years. This year I have started learning AutoCAD 3D but SketchUp seems more intuitive for 3D, faster (more fun too) and provide some great output - so I'm looking forward to start modelling soon.
Have the excellent "sketchup for dummies" to kickstart my journey.
Once I've got the hand of basic modelling will want to move onto rendering - but not sure of which book to go for "Rendering Sketchup (Danial Tal)" or "Architectural Design with Sketchup (Alexander Schreyer)", to take from Beginner to Intermediate level.
Appreciate help !!

Hello, I'm Bojo, and it's great for me to join the community. I'm an architect and a sketch up user for years and still look forward to explore more about SU capacity. Really want to learn more from all the masters here , maybe nearest target is about making a simple animation (I like Lumenrt but I guess my PC can't afford for that frustrated render) Good day guys!
