I don't know if there are still any openings but they did a registration thing about a month ago. I suspect it's full up now.

There are almost certainly going to be a few last-minute drop-outs or even on the day no-shows... So even if you didn't have an invite then simply turning up 'on the day' would almost certainly get you in [especially if you paid to get in!] :o
There's never going to be the exact number of seats set out for those attending, some events even split into sub-groups too...
However, for peace of mind I suggest you do sort it out beforehand...
Why not PM one of the Sketchup team and 'ask nicely'...
There is a small attendance fee [to discourage no-shows], so you should expect to sort that out in advance...

  • We have a possible venue near the conference site.
  • We have a fallback venue, about 15 miles away.
We can carpool and/or share taxis if need be.
So, if you're a plugin developer and you're going to be in Boulder on Sunday, plan to attend! (Details to follow...)

Can NON-Developers attend I promise not to monkey around in your RUBY code....well I do occasionally open up Ruby files but honest I don't change any text for fear of messing it up and not remembering how to get it back the way it was.

No problem; just be prepared to sit through some developer talk... (feel free to bring a book :-)

solo wrote:Why not make that place the Baker street grill where most folks will be getting together? Lots of tables and even a whole side patio for such a gathering.

After careful consideration, I think you have it right. This Basecamp is going to have lots of time for Ruby-related presentations and discussion, so we can leave the Sunday event for meeting, greeting, and eating (not to mention drinking).

This being the case, nobody should stay away in fear of "Developer Talk". Come one, come all...

The inside of the place will be pretty noisy (NFL game on wide screen TVs, cheering, etc.) However, they'd be happy to have us take over parts of the patio for as long as we want. It isn't a covered patio, so we're in trouble if it rains, but the tables have umbrellas, so the sun-shy among us can find shade.

Anyway, my plan is to get there at 11 am (when they open) and grab a table or two. Look for a geezer wearing a T-shirt from the 2010 Basecamp...

I'm sure I'll see many of you during that Sunday. :berserk:
I'm staying literally just down the street - I'm arriving on Saturday night...
I do need to duck out for a previous appointment in the early evening... but we'll have plenty of time to meet over the 3/4/5/6 days that I'm in Boulder. :D

It doesn't have to be all Ruby talk...
I can always bore you with some esoteric diatribe on some obscure subject...

If anyone is interested in reallocating resources into the beer and cider fund by sharing a room let me know. I still haven't booked that final portion of my trip but am completely stoked to hear about the magic people are doing with Ruby and Trimble Sketchup....I keep saying it but as a civil engineer by trade it still sounds odd....

I don't stay in paid lodging (eg, hotels, motels) very much, so the recent hubbub about bed bugs has only been of abstract interest to me. I looked into it a bit recently, however, because of the 3D Basecamp. The bottom line is that accommodations which house lots of humans are in danger of getting unwanted guests. You do not want these guests to "follow you home". See below for some notes and resources.

-r

Notes

Put your luggage in the bathtub when you first enter the room, then inspect the room and furnishings. Never place your luggage or your clothing on the floor or bed. Store your bags on top of a dresser, off the floor. Keep any items not in use sealed in baggies. It's a good idea to carry a small flashlight when you travel, since bed bugs will likely be hiding in the darkest crevices of the room.

Bedbugs and their droppings are easily visible, and the bugs usually don't travel more than 3 to 6 feet from a suitable human host. Researchers recommend inspecting the following hiding places when sleeping in hotels or other unfamiliar environments:

  • Mattress cords
  • Cracks and crevices in box springs
  • Back of headboards
  • Spaces under baseboards

After each post about "bed bugs", the spam amount of suggesting different companies "fighting them successfully" grows. I wonder when we get the first. ;)

I shall sleep standing up, in the bath.
Surrounded by a circle of salt/DDT and naturally a pentagram

When I was staying in New York [in a respectable enough hotel] I walked into the bedroom and a cockroach the size of a fat mouse was standing on the dressing-table.

It turned and looked at me and tilted its head slightly, as if to say, "What?! Go away. This is my space!"...
It then scurried off into a hidey-hole...
I never saw it again - although I suspect it saw me !

Yeuk!

We've had a beautiful fall in Colorado this year, and I was out riding my Bike Wed. PM.

But last night I had to drain the sprinkler system in anticipation of some colder weather and we got it.

(This is in Centennial Colorado, on the south edge of Denver, about 40 miles from Boulder and at the same elevation. I suspect it snowed in Boulder last night as well)
