IMHO this game series remains one of the best ever created. They made you really think, instead of trying to blow your opponent's brains out. Or you could just sit back and enjoy the incredible scenery and graphics, and listen to some of the haunting music. Absolutely no rush, no time limit. I doubt this sort of thing would appeal to very many people nowadays, what with no weapons or anyone getting killed. And that's kinda sad.
I agree with you completely. I absolutely love the Myst games. You can actually get Myst and Riven for $6 here. I am going to go through them again with my daughter. And you are right that is a vehicle from Riven; the Maglev car.
Thanks so much for this link! Loved it too and just bought it! This has inspired me to model something for this challenge!

No, it was more the various Quantum Levitation videos on youtube, such as this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lmtbLu5nxwIt seemed to me the technology would work well with a Segway style machine and as it needs a magnetic track to follow I figure using pulsing electro magnets would push it along. So to incorporate both Super conductor and magnets the jetski shape just sort of happened. There is a video showing a skateboard built using superconductors and I'm pretty sure they watched Back to the Future quite often.

I hope I don't get banned from the challenge for so many reasons with this entry . 1. I flat out used urgen's style and template (thanks by the way). 2. I almost copied da Vinci's design (Imagine HIM using sketchup). leonardos1.jpg leonardos2.jpg

As long as it is a style in SU you are good with the rules.
Nice model too.

You know when BTTF 2 came out in 1989 or whatever. . . "the future" was I think supposed to be the year 2015! that's 3 years away now. . . shouldn't we be a little farther along by now? hover board.jpg WHERE ARE THE HOVER BOARDS???? WHERE's MR FUSiON???
WHERE IS THE FLUX CAPACITOR??!! I demand a recount. . .

Salt Lake City must be really old-fashioned... In Europe we've had 'flying cars' for the last couple of years... Although getting the Plutonium to fuel them is not that easy - especially at my local petrol/gas-station [or even my local islamist 'terrorist cell' for that matter]... I do have a couple of public electric-vehicle charging posts just round the corner from my house, but they don't hack it either ! But then BTTF didn't foresee iPads/iPhones etc et al....

We prefer to think of it as quaint. . . Maybe someone should come up with the iFlux. . .

Nice one Martha. My first thought for this competition was to model the Stargate but with different symbols around the circle like "Home", "Work", "Toilet", etc... 5 more days all. I would love to see a few more entries.

well, that didn't work out very well! this took me the better part of an hour. a large chunk of time was spent trying to zoom in without it zooming in past the object i was trying to work on. i don't know if other people have that problem?! suppose to be electric bike lanes + bike but completely unfinished.

sometimes I also have that problem. First of all you need to have your mouse over the object when zooming, but sometimes it still doesn't work, and there is the effect of there being a sort of section plane in front of the camera. It usually happsens when you have a physically big model, and try to zoom into something relatively small, and the only way to avoid it that I can find is to take that component to another sketchup window to work on, or make it really big relative to it's surroundings using the scale tool

Hi. In this case zooming is more precise in parallel projection. Zoom Extents from camera toolbar should help you deal with "section plane effect". Al least I think.

sorry but theme was "future transportation" here on the topic can be maximum 3-4 of highlight somehow got was not what I expected ... such a big field for creativity and enough time (1 hour instead of 30 minutes) and as a result of our request about free transport in the style of fantasy, cartoon, reproduction retro drawing ... ((( do not even know what we have future, do that for us to drop a meteor will destroy all life and evolution begin anew ... at some stage it will have superpowers and we construct a network of portals))))

Rich, I think you've got this contest all sewed up. Other entries may be purtier, but they can't come close to your (weird) sense of humor What burns me is that it was something that I could have actually done within the time limit (well, possibly)
