[Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Full SetRe: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped SetHere's the latest version viewtopic.php?p=217663#p217663
EEbyRails and EEbyRailsByFace have been updated to avoid a rare glitch in the mesh/ribs caused by some helical rails turning so exactly at 180 degrees in some parts... TIG
Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped SetHere's a new version viewtopic.php?p=217663#p217663
It has some minor tweaks to FR lingvo files [thanks Pilou] etc and a brand new Tool ExtrudeEdgesByFaces. You pick a face as a profile and then one rail [curve] - then a melding-profile-face [this could also be first face picked]. The location of the face(s) relative to the rail ends affects the final extruded form. It then forms a triangulated mesh based on these faces, melding from one face shape to the other, completing it with capped ends - there are then options to reverse/smooth etc - [its functionality is very similar to EEbyRails with a pinch of EEbyFace]... ![]() TIG
Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped SetTIG,
Thank you so much for producing this FANTASTIC set of tools. Quite stunning. ...................... I do, however, have something for you to ponder.... Will it be possible in the future to utilise Intermediate Profiles ??? (See attached *.skp file) This would be EXTREMELY useful for producing models with a constantly changing cross section eg boat hulls, aircraft fuselages, certain storage tanks and vessels etc. This can be done at present with your "extrude edges by rails" (performed several times) - but the ability to utilise intermediate profiles would be brilliant. ......................... Thanks once again for all your hard work in producing this set of tools - and for combining them together in one toolbar. Regards Howard Leslie Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped SetThe 'lofting by multiple profile selections' is on the list but I know Fredo also has lots up his sleeve too...

Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped SetWhat are you trying to do exactly ?
Simply click on the zip file link [extrudeTools_yyyymmdd.zip - the file's suffix varies with the date of the last upload currently 20100219 ?], you can find it at the end of the first post in this thread, and then your browser should ask you what to do [varies with browser make]... download the zip file to your desktop, then follow the 'extraction' instructions etc... You MUST extract the files as directed - that is in their sub-folders as supplied in the zip - DON'T try to drag/drop them out of the zip's window it'll go wrong. Use 'extract[_all]' option in you zip application and they should keep their folders intact. The .rb files go directly into the Plugins folder BUT the rest of them go into a TIGtools folder inside Plugins and even sub-folders within that... ![]() PS: These plugins works with SUp v6 and v7. TIG
Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped SetJust to let you know TIG and I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem on a Mac, but I have an icon image missing.
I installed the ruby and opened SU. The toolbar shows ok, but after closing down then re-opening, the first icon is blank. I can live with it, just thought I would report it. Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped Set
This was reported once before [that was on a Mac too when there were fewer tools viewtopic.php?p=218480#p218480 think it was resolved by removing everything and reinstalling the whole set from scratch...]. Are you sure you have all of the rb's and png's in the right folders ? There are currently only 7 tools - you show 8 - the extra [first] button is a 'false' one... What EEby.. tool does it open? It suggests to me that you have a duplicate rb loading from perhaps one of those Mac's dreaded extra 'personal' Plugins folders [scripts should all be in 'root' level Plugins folder ?]. Use the Finder and search for any .rb files starting with ExtrudeEdgesBy... there should only be the 7 in the proper Plugins folder. There's also a toolbar loader called #extrusionToolbar.rb - that should also only be found in Plugins folder - that file just makes the toolbar for the other tools to add on too as they each load in turn... TIG

There are a few minor tweaks to some db text and newly rephrased FR lingvo files by Didier Bur [sorry Pilou - he is a 'Professor' ![]() ![]() TIG
Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped Set
Hi TIG, just for info, I still have the extra button, unless I close the toolbar and reopen after a SU restart, each time. it's there even when TIGTools folder + rubies are the only items added to fresh instal of SU doesn't hurt anything.. john learn from the mistakes of others, you may not live long enough to make them all yourself...
Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped SetThis extra button is a mystery as it only affects a few Mac users ???
Any Mac-users got any ideas ??? ![]() TIG
Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped SetTIG,
This tool set has been a blessing. Have followed it closely since you first posted them as individual plugins. Must say it's a tremendous example scripting prowess that have moved the goal posts in terms of SU capabilities. Congrats! Do you think it us possible to implement a coloured highlight feature which indicates rail selection from profile selection? Along the lines of Whaats SDS Crease tool. It would mimic what's seen in each icon. It's not really an issue more a graphical aid. There's a frontroom and a backroom....reverse faces
Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped SetTIG, in addition to your toolbar showing a blank button, I also get a blank button on my Mac with Jim Folz's MakeOrthoViews.rb I have no idea what causes it though. Maybe if you look at Jim's script it will give you a clue?
Edit - just realised Jim's script is encrypted! Chris
Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped Set
Thanks for the praise ![]() It would be possible to color profiles and rails differently rather than select them with the normal highlighting - but what colors would you like ? I could get it to trace over them with the 'draw' command while the tool is active with any standard colors you like ? I tend to avoid RGB as they are axial how about profile=cyan, rail1=magenta, rail2=dark_cyan and profile2=dark_magenta - it'll vary across tools as some have different selection needs etc - also the last item picked doesn't always highlight well - but that's the challenge ! ![]() TIG
Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped SetThanks for the reply. I think your suggestion of colours is the way to go. And will compliment the tool quite well. I see how it can't be applied to certain tools but still think it'll be well received
There's a frontroom and a backroom....reverse faces
Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped SetHere's another update viewtopic.php?p=217663#p217663
The picked curves/faces etc are now highlighted and 'color-coded' [this depends on the tool***] Typically they are:
Rail/Rail1 = Magenta Rail2 = DarkVioletRed MeldingProfile[Face] = DarkCyan OtherFace = Orange ![]() TIG

Re: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Zipped SetA bit off topic, but yes.
See 'organizer' available on Smustard and also my earlier ideas drifting around where you could create your sub-menus in an early loading ruby [#.rb] and add your scripts to any one by giving them one of its global variables e.g. $submenu1 for the menu rather than "Plugins"... I use it to group my plugins as
2D Tools 3D Shape Tools - Simple 3D Shape Tools - Complex 2D Manipulation Tools 3D Manipulation Tools Camera/Image Tools Text/Dims Tools Terrain Tools Other Tools TIG
