Great model earthmover, would have been coll if youd accentuated the details a bit more, but a great model however you look at it.

Thanks everyone! How cool are those japanese castles in the link I posted?! I would love to try and tackle one of those without a 30 minute time limit.

Remus, you're right. I wish I would've really accentuated the flairing curves in my profile before I ran the Follow This tool. It would've made it look more Japanese and wouldn't have cost any more time. Perhaps I'll try another one.

Unfortunately I only got the free SU version, so I couldnt make a better hill for the castle in time.

Pretty sweet model vercors, im always impressed by what you manage given the time limit.

with regards to the sandbox tools, they come with the free version as well, you need to activate them through preferences->extensions, though.

EM, Great work!. Make the last render more ghostly perhaps with some mist at the top.

The technique is very interesting. Could you explain the last statement some?

EarthMover wrote:Here's my entry. Inspired by the ancient Japanese castles as seen here - http://www.teachenglishinasia.net/asiab ... se-castles

Modeling took every bit of 30 minutes.
I quickly made the other roof details by extruding a line on the Z and drawing a quick shape which I extruded into the building.

Oh...
And I always tried to landscape with the "Push/Pull" and "Skale" or the "Follow me"- Funktion :roflmao:
Thanks, that will make things easier for me.

Kwis,

You should be in movies, kid. (As a designer). Only you need a boat that goes with the theme, unless that is the boat of the intrepid explorers from our reality. It is also heeled over (against the wind?) and sailing a bit hard for the close quarters! Pick pick. I love the imagination and the images.

Peter, I use the Extrude Lines ruby quite a bit for fast modeling. What I use it for most is to create a parallel work plane when no drawing surface exists, then I delete the extra lines. i.e, below - I'd say Extrude Lines is probably my most used ruby, especially now that CADFather put it in his SCF Power Toolbar.

Could'nt pass up this challenge, here is my attempt (motivated by Adams model) a Chinese tower/castle.

I include details as how I did it using all components repeated.

This is not an entry but rather just a submission, too much ranting lately about rigged and bias towards the Mods so this will NOT be up for vote, and besides I went three minutes over the alloted time.

Thanks.

Fantastic Pete! Great idea for a model! I can picture the top of the castle peeking through a Vue meta cloud layer.

Cas⋅tle

Pronunciation   ˈkæsəl, ˈkɑsəl/
Show Spelled Pronunciation [kas-uhl, kah-suhl]

1 a large fortified building or set of buildings

Haha, and i will have to create that within 30 minutes?

2 a retreat safe against intrusion or invasion...

Hmm, safe sounds like a familiar word...i might give that last one a try...

;-)

within 30 minutes (including getting some coffee along the way), but also with mistakes that i couldn't fix in time.

2nd entry: 30 minutes.
I don't think it's as good as my first, so I hope that it doesn't get votes that otherwise would go to my other entry. Or maybe it would be the other way around...

Solo, that is a great model. you used all the strengths of SketchUp to create a simple and clean, yet beautiful model. perfect amount of detail. I am very curious about the file size (must be tiny). I think it should definitely be included in the vote. I don't think there is a bias towards voting for moderators (or is Boo a moderator? :? ). for the 3 minutes overtime you get a minus point of course ;)

BTM, beautiful castle. has a great Disney-Mushroom-Quality about it...

I wish thsi was a Speed Doodling Challenge. These I could DRAW in 30 mins or less, modeling. .. that's something else. I love sketching castle stuff. These are just some doodles I did a few years back. Maybe these could inspire some of you guys who are better at this stuff than moi.

Solo's entry shouldn't be allowed for the simple fact that it isn't in any way a castle. Him being a mod' and the three minutes over he went aren't a reason to exclude him, but not following the brief is.

Off course it is a castle......Give people a little artistic freedom and keep this challenge fun.
I would even love it if those hand drawn sketches could be voted on. :)
