Gundam at testing facility: Updated

Gundam at testing facility: Updated

Gundam at testing facility. All models from the 3D Warehouse. Scene arranged by me. SketchUp and Raylectron.

I spent 8 hours mostly cleaning up the imported models. You would not believe the amount of reversed faces. Deleted a bunch of extraneous things from the models. About 2 more hours setting up the render. Render only took 20 minutes.

I used "Eye" (shadows) for the first time. I like the result. Cloud and small hill to the left background is an HDRI. Everything else is a model. The only thing I modeled was the concrete pad. ;)

That's EFFICIENT modeling! Looks great. I'd like to see if there could be more reflections in the textures to take advantage of the HDRi--but it stands up with this style too.

Hi Bryan I assume you are using Raylectron? What is 'eye' shadows? Nice scene :thumb: I think if you applied about 15 of shine to all the texures on the robot you would see a big diference ;)

Had to look just to find out who is Gundam :) . Pretty cool. Agree with the others , a little more shine here and there to give it some "pop" Still a good job though and I'm wondering too "what are eye shadows" ?

Thanks!

I considered using more reflections, but military colors are non-reflective, so of course the scene looks sort of "flat.

As I replied to tuna, military colors are flat, so there is almost no reflectivity. :D

Thanks!

"Eye" is under "Illumination" as part of the selection of shadows along with "Real" and "Ambient".

Military colors are flat and do not reflect. I wish it popped more, but such is the nature of things. I really do have a lot of shine already happening. Many surfaces have 20+. At minimum, 5+ just to keep it from looking like a cartoon.

The result may be be that used both sunshine and environment map and the light calculation is canceling some effects.

It was late and I went with what I got. I'll try different settings later and post the result.

I tried a variety of light and shadow combinations and none of them came out as good.

My conclusion is it's the actual angle of the camera.

But the requests for shiny got me to thinking and the result is... WET!

Made the scene look like some time after it has rained and the sun has come out. Everything's better when wet!

Sorry. Meant to give a more detailed reply sooner.

"Eye" is one of three choices under "Illumination">"Shadows". The other two are "Real" and "Ambient" (occlusion).

I just learned that "Eye" does not show HDRI, only Real and Ambient will show HDRIs. I've also learned than "Direct Illumination" can be turned off for different results.

I'm still learning Raylectron. The combination of settings is rather daunting, but simpler than other renders I've used.
