first renderings - reflections??

first renderings - reflections??

Postby not registered yet » Sun Nov 18, 2007 11:13 am

First of all - great job with vray for sketchup! - big THANKS for guys for that tool!! - It is working perfekt, much better than Podium which I waste much time with Sad

But I have some first query - I run vray with standard sketchup model and I realize that there are REFLECTIONS ?! on materials straight from Sketchup (nothin done in vray material editor)!! - Anyone knows why?

If you read the manual it states that all materials have a reflection and glossiness highlight with a value of 1 which will provide perfect reflections. The way to solve this would be to add all your materials as linked materials and set the reflection and highlight glossiness values to 0 to stop them reflecting.

Congratulations on finding a render app that works with your workflow and talent, however degrading one against another in a public forum is kinda tacky.
There are numerous render engines out there and generally it takes a while to find the one that you can work comfortably with, some have higher learning curves with more available tweakable features, some are total photo realistic based, some handle exteriors better as some do interiors better and even some are animation based. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, be it it's realism abilities or price.

I have not used v-ray yet, however by the images i've seen it seems awesome, I am a Podium user and have no reason to change that as I get the results I seek. Having said that does not mean I will not change, as the industry changes so must my ability to keep up, putting pressure on the designers of my sotware app, if it falls behind or ignores the users wishes...well thats the end of that app.

Finally, my other point is 'ability', it's easy to diss the software for a less than excepted result, however only once you are totally fluent and still not getting results or no help available for asked questions can one throw ones hands into the air and blame the app.

Happy rendering.

I wrote my opinion about Podium cause I spend really much time tryin to gain effects I could easy get in vray... I was not alone in my opinions - try read discussions half year ago on Podium forum - there were many of users asking for "more light", etc... At almoust same time I wasted 2 weeks trying to fix bug in mentalray in 3D MAX 6 and I was really impressed when I shitched into vray...

But that's true - I am not proffesional 3d maker and my modest opinion is only expression of my happines that I can add that next tool to my architectural workchop

Perhaps it's high time for a topic where all render engines can be discussed in an intense fashion, because this discussion keeps popping up everywhere.

Interesting thread.

I have never really been confident with any rendering program. I have tried Kerkythea, Vue, 3DS max and various others. I have never got the results I wanted, but speed of render is really my main criteria. I actually really like the look of Podium, played with the demo and am considering buying it in the next few days. But I'm interested to hear about its percieved limitations.

Solo, I love your website, is the majority of your work rendered with Podium?

I will also check out Vray. I was going to install Povray but it doesn't seem to run on Vista. Povray was particularly interesting to me because it directly interfaces with Cycas, a cad program I use.

Yup 99% Podium, one or two Vue renders.
