Strange creased vertices

Postby optimaforever » Fri Nov 23, 2018 11:08 am

Hi Thom,
I have some strange bugs happening these days with creased vertices.
It seems the creased vertice won't respond to the crease command.
SubD tries to crease some vertices but when I check the mesh, there aren't any crease on these vertices nor edges.
Very weird. It happened several times on different models.

It would help to see the model, but it looks like you have too many vertices on those edges.

Actually, if I delete and redraw these edges, the subdivision looks correct.
And the solid inspector doesn't show any error.

Unfortunately I haven't saved the mesh.

If you can save the model next time you observe this I can have a look.

It might be that you had a non-planar quad where the diagonal wasn't properly tagged to be compatible with QFT quads. Then the subdivision would subdivide each triangle and you will see that your loops becomes irregular after subdividing.

Got the problem on a whale model I downloaded from the WH and quadifying it.

You have some "non quad face" quads. The purple in my screen shot. Run the "convert sandbox quads to quad face quads" in QuadFace Tools and it will fix most of the problem. There still are a few triangles here and there in the model.
Second image is with SubD applied after the fix.

Ok, thanks a lot! Indeed it works!

Btw I don't care about the triangles I left. Anyway the topology isn't perfect to begin with, because the source mesh (although very correct for a 3DWH skp) isn't mine and the first purpose wasn't subdivision but getting some UV for Skattering or WRapr. ;)

So you asked your question of 'Thom' in the subd forum.

Glad you got it sorted. The handful of triangles aren't that big a deal, just thought I'd mention them. It's actually a pretty nice model.
