I have wonderful news for those using Octane Render. With a little tinkering of proxies, Skatter and Octane can work really nicely together.
1 - A .ocs file can be made of your item, ie trees, grass plot etc.
2 - In new scene, create a component (any size) context click to apply the .ocs file to the named component.
3 - use skatter to set up your scene. (overkill of components will bug-splat or just generally crash - Save OFTEN!)
4 - press (re)Generate - important step or nothing will show up.
5 - Render in Octane Plugin
6 - Finally large grassy surfaces! super happy!

Re: Octane Render + SkatterGreat!
So you're not using "Render only"?
Re: Octane Render + Skatter
That is correct. Basically I have to apply proxies to the base components. I then select them those to Skatter. Everything else is handled by your app, and the proxy system in Octane. Re: Octane Render + SkatterThis doesn't work for me. I am probably doing something wrong. for example:
I open a single tree in sketchup export it as an OBJ file create a simple rectangle as a component in sketchup right click and hit apply octane proxy my rectangle disappears from the octane viewport and I get no tree ![]() I have been really frustrated trying to figure this thing out. I really need to get this to work asap. Any suggestions?
Re: Octane Render + SkatterThat's a question you should ask on the Otoy forums.
Re: Octane Render + SkatterHi, I use octane standalone along with skatter (i have given up with the plugin due to constant bugs/crash), can I request a feature where the current 'export to octane studio(csv)' is generated and replaced automatically when the regenerate button is pressed. That way Octane Standalone would be always synced with skatter instead of having to manually export everytime
Re: Octane Render + SkatterInteresting idea. I'll add it to the v2 todo list.
