Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work! Here's a recent image I made of an apartment house.
Skatter was used for bushes and the grass which is my Grass 2 pack. Some color correction and people added in Photoshop. And a detail view of the grass. Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work! That grass is stunning.
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!Just stumbled up on the Scatter. Images blew my mind.
A few questions thou: It is not a rendering engine right? need another plugin to get renderings? Now what is the rendering engine being used to get these amazing atmospheric shots? I guess Lumion will not do? (Too bad, I got invested in Lumion). I've gotten my team to create good evening shots in Lumion as well (our recent project in lumion below), but they are not even close to what I being done with other plugins. Now the big question, what other rendering plugin I invest in? (money but mostly time). I need something quick and easy to learn but produce stunning results. Lumion made a huge difference but I see it is falling behind in the race. Perhaps Corona? Last edited by Dennis_n on Fri Nov 25, 2016 2:52 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!Indeed, Skatter is not a rendering engine. It is "just" a powerful scattering plugin. It is used to place many objects in complex manners with a lot of control (like grass, trees, etc).
It is not directly supported by Lumion, but some people use both together, like the SketchUp guru Daniel Tal : http://danieltal.com/skatter-extension-part-2/
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work! So, which rendering engine is best complimenting the scatter?
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!
You won't get a straight answer to that. Every renderer has pros and cons. I use Thea, I know it's flaws and strenghts and I love it. Vray users have their own opinions on it, it seems excellent now that it's in v3 for sketchup. Corona doesn't seem as mature for sketchup as the other two but it's also an excellent renderer for 3ds max and c4d. You also have Octane and Maxwell which are big names. You have indigo, twilight and so many others out there... I guess they have trials. Personally again personally, and as we are talking about Sketchup, I believe Thea4Sketchup is the best bet.
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!@dennis
anything that supports Skatter is pretty much your options. I use Thea but I see just as good results with other engines.... Vray, Corona, Twilight, Indigo, Raylectron and Kerkythea
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work! Many render engines have good results.
I'd say that Thea and Vray 3.4 (not 2.0!) are the ones that work best with Skatter (fast, support of "Render only", powerful proxy systems, etc)
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!I just looked through a dozen or though of other forums and posts on the render engines. Seams like Thea wins the popular support. Never the less, there is a room for Lumion.
1. Does Thea have its own trees? How do you replace Scattered boxes with Thea trees? 2. How much slower is Thea compared to Lumion? A) pure render time, B) workflow with scatter? Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!1. Yes. Apart from Skatter's own library that has proxies and materials prepared for Thea, Thea also has its own content packs that you can download freely once you have a license.
2. Thea and Lumion are very different. Lumion is a real-time engine. It is made for real-time presentations, like a video game. It can also do still images, and is very powerful for videos. But Thea is much more photo-realistic. Also, Lumion is a third-party application, and Thea works right inside SketchUp. For a Skatter workflow, Thea is much more convenient that Lumion.
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work! You should really take into account that Lumion is much easier to setup than Thea (or Vray, and other photorealistic engines).
Lumion has premade stuff you can use, while with the others you should learn how to create content. You can also buy content for photorealistic renderers like trees for skatter, realistic furniture, cars, people... All this stuff comes included into Lumion in a way you don't have in other renderers but they're hardly photorealistic. Is that realism what you need? Lumion has much less control over the results you can achieve visually, but it is able to convey a lot of stuff that is really hard to achieve with the others.
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!I came to realize that Lumion is enough to satisfy a client. However, it is not enough to build a stellar portfolio. A stellar portfolio is what it takes to get new clients.
Seams like it is going to take Scatter and Thea to take me to the next level. Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!Scatter + Thea v1.5
or Scatter + Vray 3.o What combination will 1. be easier to lern 2. Give better results ? Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work! Both are more or less equally easy to learn, and will generally give you similar results.
They have strengh and weaknesses in different areas, but really it all comes down to a matter of taste. I'd suggest that you try both. Vray 3.4 is currently free as a beta, and Thea has a watermarked trial version. I personally use both. I tend to use Thea for exteriors and Vray for interiors, but that's not true 100% of the time.
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!Got Skatter with the Black Friday deal had a go at applying it to the project I was currently working on, I must say that once I got over an initial confusion it was easy to use.
http://www.dma-ni.com/dma_projects/dma_ ... road-newry I’ve got Grass, Bushes, Leaves on Tarmac, Leaves on Grass (higher z), Leaves near walls (higher density). The above is rendered with Twilight. Here’s an example of what I was able to achieve pre Skatter http://www.dma-ni.com/dma_projects/dma_ ... r-rd-newry I like my mowed grass look so that’s my next goal with Skatter Paul Russam
English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark allies, knocks them over, and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work! Here's my effort after most of a day playing with Skatter.
I have a way to go yet tho'. Edges 880000. Faces 404000. Groups 7350. Comps 1400 Bloody hell! I am both an early bird and a night owl, I am some form of permanently energized dragon.
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!Skatter is very handy to make some stuff like this I make a box and use Sub-D to make it a ball then ,hit skatter, scatter anything you want Then, change the distribution type to Vertex make it point up to normal you can tweak it easily Just inspired by winning with Sketchup video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZXbcPoWmkg One more pic to show how I use it without planting trees Just so much fun I love Sketchup
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!As far as I can see, Skatter doesn't support vertical groups, walls etc.
I did this by picking points, tricky work filling in the gaps. Not particularly happy with the result, but adequate for the job in hand. I am both an early bird and a night owl, I am some form of permanently energized dragon.
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!
Doesnt work by making it horizontal, make into reall mesh, so no render objects. Then rotate 90 deg, havent tried it though Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!
Doesn't making the several hundred objects into a real mesh defeat the purpose? I am both an early bird and a night owl, I am some form of permanently energized dragon.
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!If you want you can use proxies too. It isn't much different than having previews and using skatter at render time only.
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!
Are you saying that you can use Skatter on vertical surfaces? I am both an early bird and a night owl, I am some form of permanently energized dragon.
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!Baz, I did this real quick and it seems so.
Mode set to Wrap (UV) Pointing: Normal
Re: [Skatter Gallery] Show your work!
In my previous post, I should have said: "Are you saying that you can use Skatter on vertical surfaces in 'Render Only' mode"? As I illustrated before with the wall render, it is feasible to use 'pick points' to place proxies, but it takes a lot of time. Hang on, Ok You can Skatter on vertical surfaces but the options for 'Clipping Areas' are unavailable in 'Wrap' mode. Last edited by baz on Sat Dec 17, 2016 12:03 am, edited 2 times in total.
