Skatter causing white background on imported models

Postby Victory7s » Fri Apr 13, 2018 1:07 am

Hi there,

I'm a university student working on my final project and I've this year taught myself how to use V-Ray and Skatter.

I purchased the Lotfi Bernoussi Vertical Green Wall photo real models so that I could create a vertical garden (located here: https://gumroad.com/l/tOyB)

For simplicity, I used one of the preset vertical gardens and imported directly into my Sketchup model.

I then attempted to render the scene with V-Ray and for some reason the leaves within the vertical garden have a white background, almost making them look like paper.

I'm not sure if it's scatter or V-Ray causing the issue here.

Does anyone know what's causing this and if so, how I can fix it?

(I just did a quick, unfinished render to try and show what I'm talking about. Apologies for not completely rendering it out, but that would take longer than's needed).

I assume you followed this tutorial, if not please do so.

Does the plant models render correctly without using Scatter?
---
It looks like opacity maps for the plant material didn't apply. Make sure folder paths for the opacity map is correct in the Vray material editor.
Opacity map is a black & white image as shown below:

Hi Filibis,

Thanks for your reply.

If I open the preset vertical garden in Sketchup and render through V-Ray, it works perfectly and renders without the white backgrounds.

It's however when I import it into my University project model and attempt to render that the issue occurs.

Hi Again Filibis,

I re-read what you said about the opacity map and realise that this could be the issue.

How do I check the folder path for the opacity map? Is this done through V-Ray?

You can find opacity at Material settings. When you clicked this checker icon, you will see the path it uses.

If it renders correctly on empty scene, try also a simple skatter on that empty scene to determine whether your university project file is problematic or not.
