Material with clipping mask not 100% translusent

Postby jonorman » Wed Jan 10, 2018 2:44 pm

Hi...

Quick question... Is it normal that using clipping mask in an material will leave faint traces in the render... as if it is only 99.5% translucent... Please look close at the picture.. (test picture to show example)

If your alpha channel isn't pure black or white this is what happens.

Open it on an image editor.

You can also tweak it in Thea's matlab if you go to clipping images and enhance the texture on the texture editor. You can enhance alpha channel contrast or clamp it down to black and white.

You can also try tinkering with clipping softness and threshold in matlab's clipping options.

Thank you for your advice... But it seemed to fix it self if i made the material in material editor from scratch.. I think the Poliigon.com textures are good and clean and final results are great...

Again thank you for your time and tips. :-)

EDIT:

Well back at work this morning, and finding new issues :-) The issue mention in previous posts seems to be related to wich render engine I`m using...

IR-Presto (AO): With the Ambient Occlusion turned on the shadows apper like in the exsample
above. turned of, the issue is gone.

IR-Presto (MC): The issue does not show up at all.. :-)

Anyone with som good explanation on that ?? Thank`s :-)

My guess is that AO might be "ambient occluding" the space between the plane and the ground... Maybe Ambient Occlusion should be neglected for transparent pixels, but that would bring out a problem on half transparent pixels... Would they produce half of the AO value?

Good Afternoon

I'm glad I came across this post. I've had this issue the last day or so, when using a PNG of a clients Logo, and it's been bugging me like mad.

The solution of turning of Ambient Occlusion worked for me, perfectly. Thank you.

And, it's provided more knowledge on how the different engines work.

Kind regards

Mike
