Dear friends,

in our continuous effort for rendering photo-realistic perfection, we would like to announce the next edition v1.5 of Thea Render. The new edition introduces some important features, mainly around Thea Render material system.

Here is the list of our major new features, presented in no particular order.
Fresnel Ramp Procedural (see tech info)

Improved Shadow Catcher (see tech info)

Substance Material Converter (see tech info)

Colored Coating Absorption (see tech info)

Section Cuts (see tech info)

On top of these features, v1.5 introduces Floating Licensing support for our corporate customers and the launch of the brand new Integration for Autodesk Fusion 360 product.

Licensed users can go to the download links.

Angels Sang... The Clouds Parted... Beams of Light Fell From the Sky... 1.5 :D

Awesome news Frederik. I've been getting some chances to use it lately and I'm working on a write up. So far I'm really impressed. The versatility is expansive. Texture control is the best. I've not seen so many options in textures that are so readily useable to the novice, but powerful enough for the Pro. Also been playing with using a cloud server to render, but my jobs are really too small... Anyway, nice release. Thanks. :thumb:

Click click bang... You make me look like a pro.

A lot of SketchUp users have asked for an option to render section cuts...
Well... With ver. 1.5 it's now possible!
However, although section cuts will appear exactly where you've placed them in SU, they won't make a "real" cut like section cuts do it in SU.

Section cuts in SketchUp makes an actual cut in the geometry, hence light will just pass through as if the building was missing the part behind the section cut, while the section cut in Thea will keep the geometry but hide it from the camera.

I think the link to the new manual is incorrect or has the wrong name. http://www.thearender.com/versions/Thea ... l_v1.4.pdf

I notice now that the extension is for the manual and not just for features.

That is awesome... Now we get to render the actual lighting instead of the "section" lighting. good thinking.

I had a network render going for a BSD channel test. The two nodes were spinning while saying "Synchronizing" as the Studio network window shows that the network is functioning but that the nodes were not contributing to the studio render. I'm thinking this must be normal as it is happening... but assuming that it's another aspect of network rendering that has not been tested? or it's simply a bug.

The new 1.5 started up and BINGO! network rendering of two nodes on Macs into the Server on a PC and it worked without a hitch! Perfect.

Love it already.

Now on to try some of these other new toys!

Just discovered that in 1.5, channel exports for .exr files are no longer limited to Adaptive BSD, but work in Presto with the same channel options; not limited per engine!
This is getting better by the minute!

Had a play with a couple of new features. Just some experiments I want to share.
The maps are nothing special and the cloth has some UV issues, sorry, but I think you can evaluate the materials anyway.
For those who are interested I've included the settings of almost all the materials on Thea's forum.

Colored Coating Absorption 01

Yeah, infinite possibilities...
Added another varnished-stained layer on top of the table.

Thanks Kim. :)
A pretty funny material obtained with two stacked colored coating layers, with thickness and masks. One of the masks is a wireframe procedural.
