UI bugs when using THEA...help!

Postby liam887 » Sun Dec 14, 2014 11:28 pm

I wanted to post this on the THEA forum but its not letting me reset my password annoyingly! Thought I would ask here as its pretty urgent :-(

When trying basically do anything once I have opened a model Thea does not respond. It doesn't crash it just shows visual bugs and becomes unresponsive.

I have updated all of my drivers, un-installed and re-installed both Thea and the Thea for SU plugin. I have tried with multiple models and they all break. Anybody have any ideas?

I am using 64bit Windows 7
SU V 14.0.4900
Thea V 1.3.08

Thanks

Liam

Looks like a GPU issue.

What you running?

I have updated all drivers too but no luck :(

Thea seems to be the only software affected in some way, everything else works fine, 3D and non 3D.

Did you try rolling back the GPUdriver?

I use 341 as 344 has issues with CUDA in certain cases

A couple years ago when I first purchased Thea I had the same problem. It was because my licence number didn't take. A non-licenced copy at that time flipped faces at random and left these big holes. I worked for a coupe of days to get rid of the holes before I was told I had an unlicensed copy running. This is probably anecdotal at this point because I screamed so loud at them they probably changed that method.

Pretty sure that's not the case, I have seen the flipped face thing before but this is definatley licensed and does not explain the other issues.

I think I've seen this before, it was either George Gellbuilding or maybe Bob James and they had a virus, it was a similar thing the display getting screwed up

Another thing could be your user account could be corrupt, there is files in user/appdata mainly layout and config

I'd do a really brutal virus scan just to make sure and create a different user account and Like Rich said use the 341 drivers, I'm on 340.84 and they work ok even with the forth coming update

I'm assuming its just broke recently? something must of changed at system level in my opinion

Yes literally in the last few days, I had not performed any updates or changed any system settings either.

I will try all those things this week thinks Nigec. I think it may be a virus I will run some scans and see what comes up! Do you have the links to the 340 or 341 drivers I could not find them on the Nvidia website and I didn't trust the random sites they appeared to be on, do you have a reliable source?

Cheers

This can help?
http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-uk
You should find older drivers there.

I dug out one of Notareal's posts on the virus, well malware possibility and he posted these links:
https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.p ... -i-do-now/
https://www.f-secure.com/en/web/labs_global/tools-beta

I have used malwarebytes tips before and I was successful.. just make a packed lunch and a flask of coffee.. it can take awhile!

I hope you get it sorted, I know how much of a PITA these things are

Cool, much appreciated Nigec, I will give it a go tomorrow evening when I am home and let you know how it gets on!

Indeed some malware has seen to cause odd behavior. Specially GPU miners... so might be a good idea to run GPU-Z to see if there unusual GPU activity going on.

btw... don't forget to grap Thea 1.4. Let me know if you still have login issues at Thea site, or maybe use https://www.thearender.com/site/index.p ... 4-13-47-01
