Animation plugin for thea / Sketchup?

Postby tallbridgeguy » Wed Nov 19, 2014 2:29 pm

Hi, I used to use keyframe animation with Thea for simple animations. (It still works great for sketchup animations and I like the plugin.)

Now the latest version of both Thea and Keyframe don't seem to work. Thea animation (Thea4SU) doesn't seem to understand turning on and off layers anymore.

So is there an reasonably priced plugin for animation that renders in Thea4Su? That allows layers to turn on and off? Any recommendations?

Thanks

It is not a question of the animation plugin. "Thea for SketchUp" doesn't export animation frame by frame, but it exports whole model and all movement paths for camera and all objects. Such animation can be opened in Thea Studio afterwards and rendered there.

After a release of 1.4 version, which is coming shortly, I will have a look at rendering animation in SketchUp which would take layers visibility into account. This won't be exported to Studio though.

Tomasz,

Is this still planned for the next upcoming version? "After a release of 1.4 version, which is coming shortly, I will have a look at rendering animation in SketchUp which would take layers visibility into account. This won't be exported to Studio though."

Thea 4 SU for long now supports animation plugins like Animator and Sketchy physics for instance.

Yes... true. And somehow, I misread this post to include something additionally to the animation ability already introduced. I confused one issue with the ability to have motion blur... which I did not precise and is not yet implemented. Thanks for the confirmation. My hopes for the new version are spilling out in these old posts. :-)

Motion Blur is implemented. There's a cool helicopter animation example in Thea's site.

Yes, but that was using Studio, not Thea for SketchUp.

Ahh... I didn't know T4Sketchup didn't support it then. Don't do animations...

There you have it... It seems Nige fixed it, so it works after all ;)

MsPhysics animation etc was one of the last things I beta tested... the pic used MSP which is what I'd use if something was spinning .. all I did was set the shutter speed to .8 and attached a motor to a wheel and recorded it.. I set it to render a Selected frame (10) so the motor had done accelerating
It should work with Fredo's animation plugin..

The motion blur option inside Thea Studio isn't implemented in T4SU, hence I've said it doesn't work inside T4SU...

What you're showing here is a workaround, where you've used MSP...

Sorry Kim but what do you mean?

Nige just showed that as long as it is moving, it blurs.

It was a simple answer to the question Nigec posted...

JQL wrote:Nige just showed that as long as it is moving, it blurs.

Yes, however, it's not the native Thea Render motion option/tool, since it's not available in T4SU, but only in Thea Studio...

Hence Nigec have used a workaround - in this case MsPhysics - to spin the wheel and then set the shutter speed so the render captures the motion blur created by MSP...

duanekemp wrote:I confused one issue with the ability to have motion blur... which I did not precise and is not yet implemented.

My answer was an answer to Nigec's question:
NigeC wrote:why do people say it doesn't work when it does, I have said it works elsewhere..

I simply wanted to be more specific and explain that the native Thea motion blur tool is still only available in Thea Studio...

Satisfied...??

But it also works in Proper Animation.. or rather it did, it would seem support was dropped for that plugin, it no longer shows in the list of animation tools in thea4su .. I'm pretty sure Solo posted a picture of motion blur created with Animator
Honestly if I was doing a helicopter rotor spinning or a wheel I wouldn't use Animator, MSP you can adjust the speed on the fly without expanding the timeline
If I get time I'll update Animator and see if it works

Animator and Thea4SU
I've never really used it, again I set the shutter speed low (0.8) and used the rotate option Animator has, I set the Render Frames, to Selected, the selected frame being 1
You don't need to create SU animated scenes, maybe this is were people go wrong, I have no idea

you're welcome..
With MSP you can play with the fps but Animator overrides it so you have to use the shutter speed, I find 1 and 0.8 seems a good ball park number.. you have to be careful as say 0.4 made the wheel appear static again
