Render with SU edges

Postby sfto1 » Thu Aug 10, 2017 8:17 pm

Hello All,

I was rendering with Thea in the SU window with SU edges on. Very interesting look. I saved the image, but the edges do not appear in the saved image. Not the effect I was figuring to get.

Am I doing something wrong that I am losing the edges when I save?

Most renderers don't render edges.
Idea: make the render of the faces as normal.
Using the same view make a new scene-tab, and export a second image - Hidden Line, without shadows to get the edges [white background defaults, so it can be made transparent later].
Now using Photoshop, Gimp etc you can 'merge' the two images, overlaying the line works over the rendered images of the faces...

Thanks TIG.

I can do that. I was thinking that Thea was saving me those steps. :? I'm just wondering why Thea let's me see that on screen but doesn't export.

I don't know enough about Thea to advise you... can you post in their own forums ?

When you save your image you have to choose an option that is called something like "Save Sketchup Image" It will save whatever is displayed in Sketchup viewport. If your render has Sketchup Edges turned on, it will save that image.

JQL,

Where can I find that option? I'm hunting now, but can't find it.
"Never mind. I found that option in the "save as type" pull down.

Thanks so much!!

Twilight renderer can do this. It's done as sort o post-pro setting along with tone mapping etc. You can turn it off or on in your rendered image before exporting.

SketchAIR can also do it but the trial is limited to 1024x1024 and it hasn't had any love for a long time now.. shame really
