Basecamp leaks?

Basecamp leaks?

Postby penumbra » Thu Oct 18, 2012 12:54 pm

Very little seems to have escaped the walls of basecamp 2012. Any pictures, videos anywhere? Anyone?

There was so much going on at Basecamp, that everybody see's it through different eyes, but a few tid bits:
No new version of SketchUp released, but a commitment from John Bacus that there will be a new update yearly, so the next will be version 2013.
From my point of view, the Trimble folks have fully understood what the SketchUp community is.
So there will always be a free version, but the pro /free versions will start to show more differences.
A real understanding of the contribution of independent Ruby developers, and some new tools released for helping with verifying code. (I'm on the road, so I will try to get the links for this when back home)
A real sense that there will be a lot more resources put into Layout. Some very fascinating sessions and interesting individual pow wow's on this.
These are just a few things, as I said seen through my eyes.
The Unconference format is slightly chaotic, and there are 6 or so sessions going on at once, so I hope others will add their thoughts.

Cheers

Dale

If you add me on Google Plus, you can see what I was blogging live with photos (no videos though I think a few of the presentations were recorded). I'm sure we'll see some of the Basecamp announcements on the Official SketchUp blog in the weeks ahead. Here's my Google Plus page: https://plus.google.com/u/0/109087767505997512261/posts

Not sure this is a leak or more of a revelation, however it is confirmed that Thomthom is a Geek Zombie, see the crazy fingers, they bend weird. Just the mention of Ruby makes him go all crazy.

Someone has already posted (I think) that it's announced that there will be a new SU version released very year now. I also heard (from a "BaseCamper, not from a SU Team member) that he heard there will also be a BaseCamp every year.

I'm interested in hearing what was said in the Ruby developer seminar?

Also, was there any discussion on SU going 64bit now with Trimbles geo-stuff-connection-thingy?
(And before anyone asks; NO I don't think it will make SU faster... :ugeek: )

Didn't Trimble say that the pro version will have more and new features than the free version, if I had to guess 64 bit would be a pro version privilege in the coming yr, I wasn't there at basecamp but I'm sure Trimble would of announced this if this is the case, maybe , just maybe :?

I guess maintaining two (32 and 64 bit) versions would be much more hassle and require more resources than if they did the differentiating somehow differently. But of course I do not know.

What was heard was that indeed there may be more differences between the two versions - more exactly there will also be "more pro versions". What this means, I do not know but knowing that Trimble wants SU as a "platform" for its various hardware, too, I can imagine many things.

High(er) poly support was also mentioned (when speaking of point clouds - you can imagine the need of some of the Trimble hardware like laser scanners and such)

There was also mention of SU handling larger res images. This came from a discussion around Trimble's GateWing which scans terrain and takes a huge number of hi-res images which can be super-imposed over the terrain mesh.
