Who should TSU have as the 3DBC Guest Speaker?

Who should TSU have as the 3DBC Guest Speaker?

Postby Mike Lucey » Mon Aug 20, 2012 8:05 pm

Hi Guys,

I mention this topic on the 3DBC topic but Phil Rader suggested that a separate thread be started and moderated.

I kicked off suggestions with this,

I'd like to suggest John McQuade a Graphic Designer par excellence and great communicator that heads up Before&After. If anyone has not viewed John in action, check out some of his 'Design Talk' videos here.

John McWade

The reason I have nominated John McWade is because not all of the SketchUp users attending 3DBC 2012 will be in the building industry but all attendees will I am sure be interested in graphic design as we all use it to some degree in our presentation work, particularly LayOut!

Here is a Design Talk video John did on logo design. Its a Master Class in 5 minutes ;)

So! if you have any ideas, post them here and we can shoot the breeze :thumb:

Someone to talk about the use of WebGL for the viewing of models on Internet or an Intranet. Also integrating with Google Earth.

Oops, I am sorry. I see this thread was for TSU, my mistake.

I'm looking for a lecture from a large construction company like Turner Construction:

http://www.turnerconstruction.com/exper ... up-plugins

http://sketchupdate.blogspot.com/2012/0 ... urner.html

also I'd love to here more about Trimbles BIMtoField goals for Sketchup Integration into that process

http://www.bimtofield.com/

In particular I am working with a contractor who uses the LM80 with a Robotic Station to layout points in the field.

I make Sketchup (3d) files to coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, Pre-Cast etc. then Produce a Flat 2d DXF file that I send to the contractor who them Manually inputs points in the hand held LM80...this is a laborious process and it seems to me that this entire process could be automated inside of Sketchup and the points automatically transfered to the LM80 software via an xml file or some other data structure..

It would be cool if there was forward and backward interchangeability between the Trimble layout software and Sketchup. Like xreferencing files so that weather it was updated in the Layout software or in sketchup a new current data file could be created and shared.

I also want to see Neri Oxman present on 3d printing:

I was at the inauguration of Neri Oxman's exhibit @ Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris in May, not only her work is awesome, but she is an amazing woman; I wish I could study with her at MIT, she rocks !

I think I have some pictures on my blog : http://goo.gl/7BnfS, or here : http://goo.gl/OEjCF

Can we get Norman foster? :roflmao:

Would have been nice, his company does use Sketchup (saw in a documentary) but there is no way in hell we'd ever get him to come.

I know you all secretly want me for this, but are too intimidated to ask. Just as well, I'm booked solid for the next couple of years

Oddly enough, I know Leb from my Cooper Union days. I think he might scare off the non-architects, though. I love what he has to say, but he's pretty 'heady.'

This thread is a testament to the broad, horizontal appeal of SketchUp, though, isn't it? I see requests for graphic designers, architects, 3d printers, GIS, construction, ..? Keep 'em coming!

I would love to see some more 3D printers at this event. Its something I have been doing a lot in the last year - The front cover of the latest issue of Wired magazine has some Sketchup 3D printed objects as props.

Perhaps some illustrators/concept artists/set designers form the entertainment industry would be a good idea. I know illustrators will be heavily outnumbered by the architects etc, not sure of the demographics of this years event but would be good to have at least one talk if possible?

I too, would like to see a 3D print portion (talk?) at this event. I'll be bringing some of my 3D prints.

Liam, do you have a link to that cover you mentioned? I looked here but don't see it.

I think Lebbeus Woods transcends the gap between architecture, Illustration, and graphic design, and was so far ahead of his time. I'm sure this isn't possible, but I couldn't resist.
Must have been an interesting fellow to know.

I would suggest to add poll on 3DBC possible topics with multiple choice to judge the level of interest - something like this:
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=45275

and add few other topics from the sketchucation forum headers:
http://forums.sketchucation.com/

The topics could be grouped to:
    - Ruby
    - Plugins
    - DC
    - Construction
    - Architecture
    - Landscape
    - Rendering
    - LO
    - Fun

or something similar.

Hey! I think Joel Metzger culd be talked into giving a little talk about his movie making using SketchUp and maybe, at the same time, tell us about his (hopeful) success with his Kickstarter project and his forthcoming half-hour TV show!
