Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with Prizeshi,
here's my entry http://hamidtoliat.deviantart.com/
Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with PrizesLet me see if I get this right, you have to demonstrate the best a tool can offer to make a christmas model. So it would seem that to be good enough for an entry, you would already have the tool. It would seem that if you do not have this tool and know how to use it, you are playing catchup from the off. Odd choice of prize and challenge imho.
Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with Prizes
Its really not that hard to pick up Mike, in fact you will have the tool mastered in less than 10 mins, i haven't modelled with out it since i purchased it. Bring on the Rain...

Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with Prizes
And you don't even have to purchase it... You can download it and use it for free for 30 days... ![]() But as iichiversii said, once you learn how to use it, it's one of the toys that you'll use very frequent when modeling... ![]() (kind of similar to Fredo's Round corner plug-in...) I've put it on my wish list for Xmas... For the first time I have put a few software items on my list... ![]() (and then it won't be all socks and tights... ![]() If I don't get it for Xmas, I'll definitely purchase it... Cheers

Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with PrizesHi,
This is my submission Merry Christmas ![]() KB Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with PrizesOk folks, I hope I've uploaded my images properly.
Whenever I think of Xmas, for some reason Charlie Brown's Xmas Tree always comes to mind. I do not have the best modelling skills, but the Vector Plugin by ThomThom definitely made this tree easier to model. Learned it after watching the demo video. FYI: 80% of the model was modeled using vector. Good luck to all the entrants. Happy holidays! Now back to my day job.
Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with PrizesOk, this is my first post and my first model like this. I have previously used Sketchup for modeling simple cabinets and floor plans. So please be gentle, I am way out of my comfort zone by even submitting an entry.
When I thought of what to make, a simple mantle with a snow-globe and candles came to mind. I used the Vertex tools to create the snow portion of the snow-globe as well as the melted portion of the candle. I hope you enjoy. It was a lot of fun to make. Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with PrizesMerry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with Prizesyeah nice work everyone keep it up! I'm still thinking about what I can do!

Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with PrizesOn a cold moon swept winter night, glows hints of fire burning warm and bright….
okay as for the vertex tool. perhaps my use of it was elementary to say the least but i used the scale feature with uv mapping locked to shape the texture of the light on the ground from the windows. also, used the vertex tools to create the waves in the chimney smoke. Happy Holidays everyone Last edited by atrodler on Sat Dec 14, 2013 6:47 pm, edited 2 times in total.
Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with PrizesThe lonely Christmas Tree and the lost wise men.
I used vertex tools throughout, to make the landscape, nearly all of the tree decorations, and to quickly make the wise men and camels in an abstract form to go with the angular icy landscape. It was one of the first tools I ever bought. Whoever wins it will enjoy it. Lastly a little, rather jumpy, animation. 23:9
Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with PrizesI'm Sorry I don't have Pictures, Just the design. I'm very new to SketchUp and I have had to learn at least 15 new things and endured at least 20 crashes to create this. After looking at all of the other beautiful work here I get the feeling at least 1/2 of what I did I suspect could have been done much easier than the methods I used, but again...Kind of new to all of this. There really is some beautiful work here and I have to close this section since I only have about 10 min left before the deadline...and I needed every minute till now....well apparently after 15 minutes of trying and failing to upload it I have passed the deadline. How can I get this submitted?
Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with PrizesI have a question , in this competition we post just christmas models or big scene with christmas motif
Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with PrizesHi Oleg,
The announcement says: "The theme of the competition is 'Christmas' so we will leave the rest up to your imagination!". In my reading, it means anything Christmas related. Single models or a whole city celebrating Christmas - up to you. Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with PrizesSemi Last minute entry, wish i had a little more time, but here it is!
I used vertex tools for almost every portion of the deer body, santa cape, and santa suit. Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with PrizesHere is a better shot, what do you think, My kinda christmas! lol
Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with Prizes
As the forum is based in Ireland, I'm pretty sure the deadline would be midnight 14th GMT, which is still around 11 hours from the time on this post, you may as well try again. Try posting screen shots, not the model itself. 23:9
Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with Prizes
well done!
Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with PrizesUpluding pics on how I used vertex tools will increase my chances or something?
Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with Prizes
Nice model.. How did you make the hat smooth in the end, because I can see that it has much more faces then on the 2nd pic Re: Christmas Modeling Competition with Prizes
Showing examples of how you used Vertex tools is part of the conditions of entry for the competition. 23:9
