Speed Modeling Challenge #44 - Modern Steampunk (1 hour)

This is tough in 1 hour. Had to stop modelling to get textures done. Anyway it's steampunkish, it was inspired by a stumbleupon recommendation

Modern Steam Punk entertainment fixture…..Third try, first two items I wanted to do went over the time limit. This one had to rebuild after a bug crash (had not saved a thing).Nothing special in modeling SKU plus Joint push pull and Tools on surface. Could not get my silver metal finish to work right, it looked segmented on the curved surfaces, still needs more detail work, but none the less here my entry.

Don’t know how you guys do these amazing designs in an hour, they all look real good so far.

A quick one from me, a stack of steampunk business cards.
Took me longer to come up with the idea than it did to model it, it's only a few components and a couple of simple metal textures dragged off the internet.
Not very pocket friendly but they certainly would remember you if you gave them a card like this.

Well I gotta say I think I out did myself on this one. Certainly with the planning stage. I spent a couple days sketching ideas and collecting textures, then finally came up with this concept. My first idea was to do a Steampunk Boombox but it was too detailed I think. Plus I could not get the layout right in my head. So I settled on my second choice with this toilet. After I had the idea sketched out I prioritized the list of components and found out I had about 4 min. per element  . I still did not put everything I wanted to in this, like some ornamentation, a stand alone toilet paper holder and a top hat on a hook next to the toilet. But all in all I am pleased.

I hope you like it... I had 33 seconds left when I quit (I used a stopwatch)
I am glad I am done with this, now I can go back to my life

So here is the steam powered, adjustable, Plush Flush.

Plugins used: Follow Me Helix, Pipe Along Path, Tools on Surface & Sphere.

Rich, I saw that dragonfly the other day when I googles dragonflies - thought it was neat. Fun to see you model it. :)
Btw, that metal texture for the bullet shell looks really good. Did you make or find it somewhere? (read: I want it!)

The texture is this with a hue adjustment in SketchUp...

Are you saying you want the texture or the .skp?

Do you have a link to this dragonfly? I've only got a Stumleupon recommendation to a picasa page.

Well there's loads I still need to finish on this one...! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
I wanted to add more "steampunk" , some smoke from the steam vents at the back, some bolts on the bodywork... a little more detail to the arms and shoes. Bit off a little more than I could chew! Will work a little more on this model and maybe try a render later... Anyways here's my Steampunk Pinochio...:) I used FFD, fredoscale, curviloft, JPP, and Round Corner plugins... but mostly it was native tools. (follow me, push-pull and scale) Finishing this is both satisfying and frustrating..! How i wish i had more time!

*edit: I also used the mirror plugin.. very useful for the legs and the hands..!
