Render this - Flak 88 cannon.

Postby solo » Mon Mar 07, 2011 7:31 pm

With a huge thanks to 'Numbthumb' who has donated his frigging awesome model of a Flak cannon for us to play with, as seen in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=333&t=35504

Okay, as per usual, any render engine, any setup, any materials, any style. Get creative.
Render as is, create a scene, do anything.

Most importantly have fun.

Here is the model in SU8.

Thanks, guys. It is a real pleasure watching this. They all look great - old & rusty, toy soldiers, flak in Afghanistan ... ( don´t know what´s it doing there, but it looks great anyway :) )

I like this scene. I was also thinking about making some kind of a night scene, maybe lit by muzzle flashes or by searchlights.
Could you please explain, what would be the most convenient way to do that? Light sources? Photoshop?
Thanks in advance.

OMG. It´s alive!!! :berserk:
Thanks, Eric, these are real beauties!
May I ask, did you use Artisan on these sandbags? For sculpting and painting textures?
Thanks once again!

Edit: @ A.Lacko: sorry, somehow I missed your work :thumb:
What rendering engine is that? Where did you find the image?

I did use Artisan on the sandbags but only for sculpting. The texture is just a basic burlap applied. I then used Pipe Along Path for the seam.

These were fun to do.

My Attempt...

FLAK 1.jpg

... Sadly, a cannon is made to fire at something, so...

ps : I hope the picture is not too dark for some screens.

MrWip, this is a great image indeed. :thumb:
Did you add muzzle flash in PS? How did you use it to lit the scene?

Thanks for the positive comments !

hmmm... sadly it looks a lot darker on my work computer than on my laptop, so I suppose it should be quite dark on many screen...there are some details in the background, and there barely visible now... I will try to edit that...

The lighting is done by a simple point light place at the base of the flame.

Hehe, ooops  Thanks for the explanation.

The second cannon in the background is visible on my screen. A little brightness/contrast tweaking revealed something more. ;)
If it´s not too much of a hassle, please post the edited version as well.
