Why is this topic locked?
It say the comp is going on until the 19th and that's still another week?!

Here's mine, ran out of time as usual.

It's a giant Bonzai, a bit of a twist on the idea, build the house roughly the shape and paint it to look like a tree.
The Garage would be in the pot and the stairs would run up through the trunk.
I had no time to add any more detail like windows, doors or a chimney or the swimming pool and sundeck on the lower branch.

Why don't you upload to YouTube, then post it here? I know I didn't want to bother downloading it

can we get textures off the web or does everything have to come from standard SU material files?

You can get whatever textures you want, just as long as your output is from SU and SU alone. Unlimited prep time just no modeling until you are ready.

It turned out a bit teletubbieish but the idea is basically: a house inside a big hollow tree.

Sometimes a picture speaks a thousands words! Anyway for this particular challenge members may feel it's not necessary to supply a video? But each to their own as they say.

Some great entries so far, keep 'em coming!

This is a bit of a while from my last speed entry, and man it has been a while since I booted up sketchup too.

Well not exactly a tree house... but a bit natural.

Great entries, fun challenge, beautiful theme Oli!

Scott Para's other post led me to zuzutop where I found this wonderful collection of extraordinary trees:

http://zuzutop.com/2010/01/10-strangest-trees-on-earth/

Although too late for inspiring this challenge, I am none the less flashed by the fact that there exist trees that are big enough for people to really live in... :o
