Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower PowerFlower Power
The rules: -30 mins max modelling time -unlimited prep time (thinking, sketching, looking for pics etc. NO MODELLING!) -I will ask people to judge the models on time taken to model, quality of the model and originality of the idea. -Multiple entries are allowed, keep it sensible though. -Please provide a wire frame shot of your model when you post. -Sketchup output only (and as much as i know you love rendering your models, it would be appreciated if you could hold of posting them in the gallery until after the comp.) -Any texturing should be done within the modelling time. Comp closes at 6:00 PM GMT on 31st May. Good luck! Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower PowerOh flowers... that sounds challenging indeed.
--- I've just done one, but I won't be the first posting an image... "Aquel que sacrifica un poco de libertad por seguridad, no se merece ninguna y terminará perdiendo ambas"

I want to see some petals! BTW, I'll post my model, but after that I'll need some help with organic modeling... Is not normal to spend half of my 1/2 hour giving shape to just one petal... of a simple tulip! The rest was easy Maybe I won't post this one because the mesh is a mess (lol) and I'll choose an easier model "Aquel que sacrifica un poco de libertad por seguridad, no se merece ninguna y terminará perdiendo ambas"

![]() Here is my first one. 22 min. modeling, texturing and arranging. Last edited by boofredlay on Thu May 20, 2010 9:39 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower PowerAnd my second entry (one two many probably
![]() The Rubix Flower. ![]() Hope you like. 24 min. modeling and coloring time.
Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower PowerSo I made an orchid (and ran out of time...), and then a water lilly (it came out "nice")... but at the end I prefered my first option, the tulip.
Besides, posting the model I had troubles with is the best way to get feedback on the modeling of petals. 30 min (coloring included). Close to 20 for just the petal component. "Aquel que sacrifica un poco de libertad por seguridad, no se merece ninguna y terminará perdiendo ambas"

Nice! What plugin (if any) did you use for your petals? Rick Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower PowerHi Rick
I'd say I've used every plugin I have! lol .draw a curve with bezier spline. .Extrude edges by lathe .Fredo scale - radial bending (here I should have stoped) .Sandbox trying to get a bether organic shape... .gave up (that is not a plugin...) Untill radial bending the time spent was less than 5 mins... but I still can't get the shape I want ![]() "Aquel que sacrifica un poco de libertad por seguridad, no se merece ninguna y terminará perdiendo ambas"
-Benjamín Franklin. Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower PowerDecided to have a go on my lunch break.
Did not get it finished, quite a few details missing but from a distance it's ok. A Floor Lamp. Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower Power
![]() Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower PowerYour tulip looks nice. Good work!

Sandbox is a plugin, it just comes packaged with Sketchup (like some others should ![]() 3D Printing with SketchUp Book

Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower PowerYup. Actually, it was included when SU became "open" to ruby plugins in version 4. And until version 6, it was not even included into the free version of SU (nor animation export, print to scale, 2D export larger than screen resolution etc.)
Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower PowerOk, great entries so far and congrats to all...
Here's my entry...
Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower PowerI like it Rich. Did you use the Fur plugin and set it to 1 for the plant

Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower Power![]() The guy who sold me the seeds said they were magic? Let's hope it's not mushrooms ![]()
Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower Powerok guys you can't vote for this one, 'cause it took me way more than half an hour since SU kept crashing. I should know better than to try to model fur that has fur on it...
![]() Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower PowerSo, this one I did manage in half an hour...
Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower Power
Sell the family cow did you? If I make it look easy...It is probably easy
Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower Power
What is not a plugin (and that was what I was refering to) is giving up, lol Pyroluna, I liked your idea! I supose you made one "furred" seed as a component and sprayed again around a sphere? You won't believe it, but to save time I used the fur plugin fot the 3 leaves in my entry ![]() "Aquel que sacrifica un poco de libertad por seguridad, no se merece ninguna y terminará perdiendo ambas"
-Benjamín Franklin. Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower PowerWouldnt exactly say I'm pushing the boundaries here, but modelling only took me about 15 mins. Spent the next 15 mins trying to get the plywood material right and failed!
My first attempt at speed modeling so be kind! ps its based on the 'flower chair' by Icelandic Studiobility http://www.chairblog.eu/2010/04/20/flower-chair-by-icelandic-studiobility/ Re: Speed Modelling Competition #26 Flower PowerFor Truth, Justice and the American Way. . .!
