That's huge news and really secures / accelerates Blender development for the foreseeable future. SJS66 wrote:Blender 2.80 has been officially released.
I downloaded it last night and plan to work through the intro tutorials in my free time over the next couple of weeks. It's a bit daunting (compared to SU), but the new interface is much cleaner and EEVEE looks incredible. Once I'm comfortable at a basic level, I'm going to try out Chipp's workflow: modeling in SU / rendering in Blender. I'm excited to explore Blender: should be worth the effort of scaling the learning curve — and a good backstop against an unknown SU future.

One of the great things about Blender 2.8 is it's menu system is SO MUCH BETTER! You can now find just about anything your looking for in the menus, and see the shortcut keys too. I created this video below to help people setup Blender 2.8 for a paid course, but you're welcome to review it.

I am SO looking forward to actually having a real person teach the course instead of trying to learn (yet another) modelling/rendering/animation program on my own. I always feel I've figured out just enough to get going but miss alot of the good stuff too.
Where are you that you have a Education Center that offers such a course. Thats awesome. I sure wish there was something like that around where I'm at. Just doesn't ever seem to work that way.

LOL I was surprised to see it listed too in this Fall's Continuing Education book. They've had introductory ACAD for quite a long time and I think I saw Sketchup once. Might have been dreaming that one though. It's being offered in 2 locations- Eastside and Westside of the city in Toronto. The cost is CAD$180. I tried to learn Blender myself many years ago but couldn't figure it out so I hope with the new version it will make a lot more sense and be a good basis for understanding Chip's tutorials.

I'll say it again..when and I do mean "when" someone comes up with a drawing/input method for Blender that works like SU..it's GAME OVER! I love SU and have been using it since v3 but Blender is just growing in leaps and bounds!

There are currently some pretty good drawing tools and 2.90 version brings an even better version of push/pull than SU s shown below. Plus there's going to be a while new set of CAD like snapping tools as well in 2.9

What about Construction Documents (CD's) from the models, has anybody figured out how do those with Blender yet?

No. If you need Layout type capabilities, then SU is your best choice

That's certainly a step in the right direction.

What exactly is better SU's PushPull? How do you input exact PP values? And I didn't see even once that external object was used as reference (for PP).

If you watch the video, you'll see Blender's PP removed some unusual cases for interior coplanar faces, which SU cannot do. There is a VCB like region where you can enter in values. Snapping is possible, you just have to turn it on (unlike SU where you can't turn it off). I'm not interested in creating a SketchUp vs. Blender fan thread. if you enjoy SketchUp and how it works then good for you and best of luck.

So I need to move cursor this value field, click there and enter exact numbers every time I push-pull?

No, you can type while PP just like SU. If you want to know specific workflows for comparison's sake, consider downloading the beta and learning for yourself.
