CFileException 0....

Postby Seatales45 » Mon Dec 31, 2018 4:07 pm

Hello everyone,

Not sure why yet, but when trying to save a sketchup model, an error message comes up like the attachment.
This error is making a second model file with “-0” added to the end of the file name. So now you have two models, one named ABC and one named ABC-0 to choose from. When this happens while working with a LayOut file, the LayOut file gets disconnected from the original model and now I have to look at the time stamps in the file tree to make sure I am reconnecting the latest model to LayOut.

It's starting to severly affect the workflow. Any suggestions for workarounds, fixes, etc.?

Thanks in advance,
Velina (SeaTales45)

The hyphen in the path could be the problem. Replace it with underscore. Any difference?

Hi Dave,

Interesting thought, so I tried it, but there was no difference. Finally, our IT consultants had to list SketchUp and LayOut as some sort of exception in our webroot antivirus. We have been problem free since last Friday. (1-4-19)

Thank you though,

CFileException 0 is SketchUp's way of saying "something just went wrong with a file operation but I have no clue what it was". In many cases, and this likely includes yours, it seems to be caused by other agents such as remote file synchronizers or antivirus scanners that lock a file at the same time as SketchUp is trying to save to it.

If I am using sketchup a lot I get that windw an average of twice a day. I just ignore it with no consequences.

Hi all,

I was having the same message each time I worked on a model saved on the DESKTOP, and SketchUp trying to write a SKB there.
Check if your SketchUp executable has the right to write on your Desktop.

Just in case, also see this: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=68205

As Didier says, if you have not installed SketchUp correctly all kinds of unexpected file & folder permission issues can appear...

To repeat what has been stated in many places before...
To fix your installation...

Login to Windows as your normal user-account [NOT the specialized administrator account - BUT if your normal user has some admin-powers that is OK]
Ensure SketchUp is closed.
Find the SketchUp installer's exe file - usually in your Downloads folder.
Select its icon, right-click > context-menu > "Run as administrator"
When prompted choose "Repair".
When it completes retry SketchUp and see if these kinds of issues are improved...
