[Plugin] SketchyBevel 0.1(Updated May 11)This plugin is not nearly finished yet. But it will be a little while before I am able to come back to it. So here is an early release, warts and all.
Install -Put SketchyBevel.rb in your plugins directory. -Select the faces you want to bevel. -Right click and select Bevel. -A dialog will appear. -Amount is how far to inset the faces in decimal inches. -Cap holes will attempt to fill in the corners of the bevel with faces. Capping holes is still buggy so you may want to do it yourself. -Click "Ok" and it should bevel the geometry. Known bugs -Works by "shrinking faces" similar to the Outliner tool. If the face shrinks too much it will flip causing the geometry to be incorrect. -I haven't figured out how to cap the holes in the end of a bevel yet. It works ok for simple shapes but more complex ones are tricky. So there is an option to cap holes or not. If you cap holes you may wind up with some extra faces that are not needed. If not you will have to cap them yourself (not too hard). -Sometimes faces are backwards and grow rather than shrink. Delete the face and rebuild it by drawing a clockwise line. -It doesn't yet handle the case where some of the faces in a mesh are beveled and others not. Chris May 11 update. -Fixed hang bug if input box canceled. -Beveling now works inside of groups and components. -Bevel amount should now be in the set unit format (meters, cm, feet, etc) -Somewhat better capping of holes. Still far from perfect. Sometimes it still leaves holes so there is a "Cap Holes" right click option. Please, register (free) to access all the attachments on the forums.

Re: SketchyBevel 0.1Cheers chris, for its current foibles this is still a wicked script.
Re: SketchyBevel 0.1thanks chris, nice little script - great idea with the face shrinking

ONYA MATE !!! Just do it, it might be fun.
Re: [Plugin] SketchyBevel 0.1Chris, thank you for this very usefull script !!!
Works as far as I can tell (only tried some simple forms) like a charme. Only, one question would it be difficult to implement a choice between inches and cm for the bevel width ?erikB
Re: [Plugin] SketchyBevel 0.1I've found a bug: i tried just beveling a face (should have read the instructions...) and it gives me a dialog saying 'wrong arguement type false (expected array)', the problem is it is impossible to get this dialog to go away, you have to shut SU down form the task manager before you can use SU again.
Re: [Plugin] SketchyBevel 0.1
Thats too bad. Do you have any idea how to reproduce it? When I try it with a single face it doesn't do that.
Re: [Plugin] SketchyBevel 0.1heres a quick mock up of the thing that made it crash. I was trying to bevel the top surface, but without hidden geometry turned on.

Re: [Plugin] SketchyBevel 0.1Hi Chris
Thanks for this very usefull tool. I one question though, would it be possible to use it in Decimal/millimeters ? It seems to use inches, even if my drawing is set to use millimeters Thanks Jorgensen
Re: [Plugin] SketchyBevel 0.1I just returned from a few days off at sea. Coming home is a delight
Thank you very much Chris. I'll be trying the script when working on a model for work tomorrow. Kudos for these nice contributions to the SU community. Appreciated! Regards, Kwistenbiebel
