Thanks, Tom
I can see where this would be useful in certain circumstances. How often, for me, I am not sure.

You must be some kind of mind-reader Thom! Excellent tool, as always! You're so generous.. I noticed a little thing: the layer taken into cosideration is only the one which contains directly the faces of the objects. It means that if you have 6 faces making up a glass box on "layer0" and a group holding them together on layer "glass", if you click on the group nothing happens, at least for me. Could be useful to extend the turn-off-layer ability to groups and components too (if they're made of homogeneous sub-entities). What do you say?

That will make the tool very slow when interacting with groups/components of heavy meshes as it'd involve inspecting all related elements.

This is a very useful tool! Thank you very much! But there is no button on the toolbar panel. How to make a button?

Is there something like "Put selected objects on a new layer and hide this Layer".

I am not seeing the tool in the menus. Why does the icon appear without a blue 'book'?

all done, but still not seeing 'hide layer by pick'................sorry, I do see it. did not realize I had to re-start sketchup when using this new method of installing extensions. however, the functionality of the extension seems to be amiss. maybe it's conflicting with my layers panel extension.
