Church Pew

Postby watkins » Sun May 04, 2008 5:48 pm

Dear All,

My wife and I church sit the first Sunday of every month so that the church can stay open for visitors for 2 hours in the afternoon. This time I took my laptop and passed the time modelling one of the pews.

Regards,
Bob

Bob,
That is really cool. I built an alter lecturn for our church some time back. I was not using SketchUp at the time, but modeled it afterward. I'm also going to be building the prayer rail for our church as soon as I can get caught up on the other stuff. That I modeled in the design process and will be using export pictures of the parts as I build. It was very cool to be able to model a couple different ideas to show to the minister and other members of the church counsel to decide on which design.
May all your dimensions be the sum of their total.

Dear Jerry,

Thank you for your kind words. I enjoy relaxing using Sketchup, and some of the features on the pew were a bit thought provoking, particularly the seat braces with the curved bevelled section intersecting a flat.

Please post your lecturn if you have a chance.

Regards,
Bob

I thought I had that in storage on my web site, but I guess not. I'll check at home this evening. Did post about another piece of alter furniture I made in another thread, though.

Beautiful model.
Did you eyeball the dimensions or did you take a tape-measure to church?

Dear Gidon,

Thank you for your kind comments.

I took a tape measure to church with me, and so the pew is pretty much to scale. As I wrote in my opening post, my wife and I church sit the first Sunday of each month, and so I plan model more bits and pieces over the coming year. I think I might have a go at the church door next month.

Regards,
Bob
