Some UK/Euro Artic/Semi trailers for you all

Some UK/Euro Artic/Semi trailers for you all

Postby Paul Russam » Tue Jul 31, 2012 5:05 pm

Following the response from the doors and windows I posted a while ago here's a follow up.

Theses are articulated (Semi's if your from the colonies) trailers I made for a recent project, I went a bit overboard on the variations but it made for a more complete set.

The tractor was originally from the warehouse but as it wasn't 'originally' from SU and the fact that I've completely rebuilt it reducing its size to only about 10% of its original I think its OK to post it here.

6x4 Volvo Tractor and Box Trailer

4x2 Volvo Tractor and Box Trailer

Curtain sider

Refrigerated

Flat bed

Skeletal (for containers)

Skeletal with 40' container

Skeletal with 2 x 20' containers

Skeletal with 20' container

Skeletal with 20' liquid container

Double deck box trailer

Double deck curtain side trailer

I've given everything except the body work SU materials, this way you can apply any colour you wish to the component and only the body will change.

All the materials are uniquely named so they wont interfere with any materials you already have in a model.

I've made the interior of the tractors separate components so if you happen to drive on the wrong side of the road then you can mirror the interior to suit your countries quaint ways without having a back to front volvo logo etc. :D

Wow, Paul! Just wow! Looks like some crazy work put into these. The 40' shipping container will be useful for a project I'm working on.

Once again . . . :thumb: :thumb:

Opps, I forgot to say that I also got the 20 & 40' containers from the warehouse, again I modified them to reduce their size.

Thank you Paul,
these are great amd will save so much time - I'm often need standard vehicle sizes to work out if a road design will work and these will help in that process.

Thanks Paul for another excellent collection.

Its great seeing this kind of generosity here on SCF. I also see that you have been thanked by a good number of our SCF regulars.

I hope the other 30 odd downloaders have shown the good manners to thank you by PM but if they haven't please accept my further thanks x 30 for these ill mannered downloaders.

I may seem a little peeved but I find it very alloying and frustrating when I see this sort of bad manners here on SCF.

Best,

Mike

Mike,
I can be guilty of the same myself, sometimes I can't think of something appropriate to say or something that hasn't been said already.
It's a weird sensation when you want to say something but leave without saying anything and a guilty feeling  I've never commented on Tadema posts because I can't even come close to matching his amazing creations with something as lame as my words, I constantly feel bad about it and I still don't do anything about it.... As I said weird.

I'm hoping that the forum update will supply us with a :thumb: or a +1 feature. this way I can show my appreciation without feeling inadequate with my words.
If I click the reply button I feel obliged to write something meaningful, if I can't think of something I don't reply.

.... I know where you are coming from Paul. There are folks here that get stumped for words at times. However most of those folks make other contributions in other ways. I believe everyone is quite capable of making some sort of a contribution if they made an effort but alas many just take and take and take. I'm well used to it by now but it still saddens me at times as a simple ' :thumb: ' can mean a lot.

Mike,
many just take and take and take

That's partly our fault for giving and giving and giving, For everything I've posted I did it without any expectation of a response but I'm also disappointed when there isn't one  (damn my ego!)

At the same time I posted the doors and windows I posted a tutorial for what I thought was a cleaver way to use SU as a design tool, now it may have been the way I worded the post or it getting lost amongst other posts but it's only garnered 3 replys and one of them is mine
I put some time into it and almost no time into the doors and windows and yet look at the results, am I a little disappointed?, yes but only because of what I thought was the better post.

Now I feel bad again for not posting on other peoples treads....damn!

Me too - too often I have to confess.
To be honest, I do not have much use of the cars, trucks or windows (as I model different stuff when/if I do at all), did not even downloaded them, however thanks a lot - at least in the name of the community - they do seem to be very useful for those who need them, and also nice quality! :thumb:

We were doing a loading dock for a local company and realised that we had multiple conflicting dims for UK trailers, I rang a couple of trailer manufacturers but got the cold shoulder. I then rang a company called Don-Bur and spoke to one of their designers, damn he was helpful, he actually sent be a basic drawing with all the sizes, axle positions etc.

It seemed a hell of a waste to leave them as 2D sketches :D so I hunted the net for images of trailers, chassis, axles etc and knocked out what you see here.

The 2 tractors were originally from 3DW but there's no way they were made in SU so I gutted and rebuilt them to about 10% of their original size and added them to the file.

Call next time your up in Blastfast, there's bound to be somewhere in the city we can get a drink ;)

Thanks for these Paul! I am just getting my legs under me, so to speak, with SketchUp. Used it to model an area for my master's thesis. I'm not a rookie anymore, but definitely not anywhere near as good as you. Thanks from Syracuse, NY, USA!

P.S.--What does everyone think of the new Trimble logo for SketchUp? Just downloaded the new version two minutes ago.
