Dimensions in rendered models

Postby giorgio78 » Fri May 18, 2012 12:06 pm

Is it possible to render models with IDX renditioner or any other rendering software having dimensions seen also in the rendered file?

If I want dimensions in a rendered scene I make an export direct from SketchUp that is the same size as my rendered image and lay it over the rendered image in an image editor.

Inspecting mirrors is a job I could easily see myself doing.

I've tried to do this but no success. Can you just explain me in short how to do this and what editor do you use?

1) Do the render;
2) Export from SU the 2d image, at the same size of the render, setting the style to "hidden line" (it's in the "default styles" folder);
3) Open both the render and the SU's exported image for example in Photoshop. Right click on the SU's image layer-->"duplicate layer" and choose the name of the rendered image under "destination". In this way you're sure that the two images will match perfectly;
4) Select the SU's image layer and set the blending to "multiply".
That's all.

Massimo beat me to it but his is almost the same process I used. If you don't want the edges of the model as mine shows, after setting the Face Style to Hidden Line, edit the style to turn off edges leaving only the dimensions visible.
Inspecting mirrors is a job I could easily see myself doing.
