New LG Monitor is Horrible, is it broken?

New LG Monitor is Horrible, is it broken?

Postby Chris Fullmer » Sun May 06, 2012 3:30 am

Hey, I just bought a new monitor today, an LG Flatron e2360. The left side of the monitor is very bright and the right side is a bit dim. It looks like the left is really warm and the right is cool. But I can feel it straining my eyes like I've never felt before because of the different levels of brightness.

So my question is, is this typical? Or is it clearly broken? Honestly my wife didn't notice it until I pointed it out, now she can see it. But for me I noticed it the second I sat down to it. Its like the left side of the monitor has a warm colored bulb and right has a cold colored bulb and its driving me nuts. Anyone else ever seen this?

I like the price and size and features. So do I return it for another identical model? Or just get a different model?

no... I got 3 of them... and thought the same thing. if I remember correctly it's the gamma settings on the monitor.

here in the feedback they talk about it and how they fixed it. I might also.

Two out of two LG monitors failed for us within two years of purchase. Both were the same model. The problem was not the same as yours. Ours refuse to bring up the display after going to standby or on power up. We're not planning on buying LG again until we know their quality improves.

I tried playing with settings and never got the one side to be the normal brightness - it just hurt my eyes! So I ended up returning and getting an even larger ASUS that so far is very very good. Color is amazing. It matched perfectly with a series of photos I just had professionally printed, which is really good for my needs. I'm a little hesitant because I don't think of ASUS as a monitor brand  but I'll go with it and see how it works out. So far I love it.

Chris, I never has an Asus monitor either, however I do have everything else Asus from mobo, GPU to transformer tablet and I can vouch for the quality of all those products.

If indeed you change monitors I can highly reccomend the Samsung SyncMaster P2770HD 27", I have two of them and they are just brilliant, 5 star rated, perfect picture, and when used with DVI it's amazing.

That's amazing. When I look up close at my (Sony) TV it is nothing like my computer monitors (you see a grid of dots) and that TV and the 30" DELL monitor I have are much more expensive. I need to look into this for a home monitor.

Peter, I have learned something that was never explained or available when I started using LED monitors, never use the HDMI cable, the picture is crap and you can see pixels, always use DVI-DVI, maybe that could be the problem on the Sony?

I think I tried it with the VGA / DVI Adapter I have. The screen doesn't have DVI. That could be it or some other setting. Never even tried HDMI on it. We use standard video input from the playstation.

I also have a Samsung I am extremely happy with. It is a 23" monitor which displays at 2048x1152 pixels which is great for use with SU with all the its sub windows open. It is clear, sharp and accurate.

Most monitors out there right now are 1920x1080 which is the current BluRay standard resolution which is why some of you are seeing the pixels on the 27" monitors, they are skimping on the pixels on these large monitors.

Apple's current large monitors are 27" and offer 2560 by 1440 pixels, others offer similar but they do get pricey (but compared to the 22" Cinema displays I bought 12 years ago they are way cheap).

We'll start seeing some really high resolution displays later this year, akin to the ones they use to look at Xrays and other high resolution images. Higher resolution and quality is worth every penny you spend on them over the years you will have them. ( We still have two of the original 22" Cinema displays working just fine in our studio as secondary monitors, a pretty good value over time)

I use two samsung monitors at work that I really like as well. I was planning to replace the LG with a Samsung, but in the end this ASUS was quite a bit cheaper, faster refresh, and 2 inches bigger. But I do agree, those Samsung monitors are great!
