Water Reflection part 2

Water Reflection part 2

Postby davidh » Mon Apr 23, 2012 10:35 am

Hello again. Its been a while since I uploaded any new tips.
Here is one similar to one of the first tips uploaded but with a small addition that helps to add some realism.

1.Open your render or your finished post processed image.Increase the size of the canvas to allow for flipping the reflection.

2.Flip render and add small amount of motion blur downwards.

3.Add a dark band along the bottom of the image,a dark blue works best.

4.Create a layer mask on this band and drag downwards using the gradient tool.
The effect is that of the water getting darker as it approaches the viewer, which is how water acts(its what is called the fresnel effect)You can see the difference between steps 2 and steps 4.

Extra tip:
If you have a particular strong colour at the top of your sky, sample this with the eyedropper tool and use this to create the dark band.Note that it must be quite dark,no matter what colour you use.

Thats it.Simple but effective. You can see a big difference between steps 2 and steps 4.
