batch rendering?

batch rendering?

Postby dav21 » Wed Sep 07, 2011 3:22 pm

How can i do rendering like this? The second one starts when first one finishes. there are two files. When the second one finishes and gets completed the third one starts, so on and so forth. Is there an option in vray for su too like this? Many times all the modeling gets complete and all the views are set. There's only the need to hit the render button and go for dinner :D.

It is very simple.
First you set up your scenes in sketchup.
Scene1 scene2 scene 3 etc
In some older version of vray the scene 1 will be rendered 2 times in version 1.49.01 this no longer happens.

In sketchup go to view/animation/settings enable scene transition with 0 seconds.
And below that put the scene delay to 1 second.

Now in vray option be sure to have batch render enabled (options/globalsiwtches/batch render)
Then go to the output section, select render output save and name the file whatever you want, i always use simple things like A,B or C.
Below select animation on, instead of NTSC select in the frame rate custom, fps=1 and enable the include frame number thingie.
Yes i want to become an Architect.
Yes im pretty close to that.

In sketchup, make the number of scenes what you need to render.

First. In Menu: View->Animation->settings

Disable Scene transitions and put scene delay = 1

Second. In V-ray->options->Output

Check the animation On

Last. Go to dinner.

Is not needed to assign on "Save file"? And the option "Batch render"?

Sorry. Yep, you have to check the save option and put a name.

It sounded like the question was asking about rendering different files and not different scenes of the same file. If this is the case, the answer is no. You cannot setup renderings for different files to batch.

BUT if you have multiple files, you could merge them to 1 file (copy paste) and do it the way described here, with scenes

in addition, u can use something like http://sourceforge.net/projects/shutdown/ to shut down your PC after it finished rendering (use the CPU usage option).

btw: this is my first post here, hello! :bounce:

Am I missing something here?
I follow the instructions above but don't know how to actually set the rendering in motion as nothing I try works.
I click render and the screen scrolls rapidly through the scene tabs and the frame buffer renders all the scenes one by one but why are the renders not being stored as JPEGs in the folder that I assigned on my hard drive?

If I export using sketchups export option I get all the scenes saved as you see them on the sketchup screen but I want the vray rendered images... Can anyone help please?

@davelee: which version of vfsu? Also, is the vray frame buffer window (render window) showing up? If not, can you do a rendering without animation from that file? If you don't see the window, the render isn't happening.

Hi
I am using the latest version for the mac 1.49 i think.
The frame buffer shows yes and I see the scenes render one by one on the screen but only on the screen. Shouldn't they save out to my drive?
Ill try rendering one scene to disk as per your advice.
Thanks

It sounds like the render works fine. You need to make sure in your output option you have an autosave file name specified.

You also have to make sure you have INCLUDE FRAME NUMBER ticked on.

Hello, I don't know wether or not Davelle solved his problem, but I do have the same one, with sketchup 8 and I think the last version of VFSU, but on PC. The batch rendering operates, but doesn't save the picture files anywhere, that's very frustrating. Any idea?

HI, still haven't found a solution, except for wacking up every hour last night, change scenes manually, pray and go back to bed...for one hour. I tryed several ways, calculating pictures of 5x5...They always calculate but don't get saved anywhere. I wish I could find a solution before the end of this world, please help!

This tutorial has fairly comprehensive options setup, not sure if it'll solve the issues though as haven't tried animation myself.

Just a simple thing to check - have you specified a file name for your saved images? You have to have autosave enabled so vray can save your images.

Hi,
I also had this problem recording.
I did a search in windows and the files were stored in TEMP / vfstextureCache.
I hope you find it!

I have the last version of Vray (1.49.01), but the first scene is rendered two times!!!
I don't know why.
Is it the same for you?

Thanks for your answers, I still have the same problem; to Andybot, yes I specified a name, and to PierreAudouin, I'm very surprised, it looks like I don't have such a file named vfstextureCache? I looked for it, I don't think I have Hidden files, on Windows 7... Still trying to do a Batch rendering now, I hope 2013 gives me the answer. I'm on Sketchup 8 and bought my Vrayfor SU version in August. To Pierre, you must have an option like "reboot on first scene"?

Wow! I just looked again, and I finally found the pictures! They were hidden in the OS(C:)/User/(Me)/AppData/Local/Temp/VfsTextureCache!!!
Thank god I can now work and sleep 8 hours in a row!! And Special thanks to PierreAudouin too, you were right! I just wonder why the pics are saved ther and not where I told Vray to save it? an other bug? And the search tool on windows 7 is just useless, perhaps should I stay on a mac next time I buy a Computer...This little gag almost cost me a project

Yes, good, this is 2013!!!
Happy new year!
it's weird, it is thanks to the windows search tool I have found my files.
Good for you.
I search "reboot on first scene".I don't have option like this.
it doesn't matter, but if you have a solution...

Happy new year too! I can't find this option any more, but I'm pretty sure it was part of the previous sketchup versions. By the way I also have the first scene doubled in my file this morning...And they look strictly the same? Now I have a little bug with the "face me components": some of them are grouped at the origin of the axes...Weird, but I may find an explanation on this forum...

is it possible to change layer states during a batch render? i'm trying to render an animation made with SU animate, but vray only seems to accept the layer state of the first scene.

check the attachement to see what i mean

unfortunately, no. That's just the way vray works currently. It only loads the model once at the beginning for batch rendering.
