Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - RetroThe theme for this challenge is "Retro"
Retro Gadgets (50-70 years of last century). The recently modified rules are still fresh so please read them. The Official SketchUcation Community Forum Modeling Challenge Rules: For this challenge you will have 30 minutes maximum for modeling and texturing. Your time spent is on the honor system, if you cheat you are only cheating yourself. You can use an unlimited amount of preparation time for thinking, sketching, researching, collecting textures or scratching your head but NOT FOR MODELING. Again, this is on the honor system. From now on only one (1) entry will be allowed so choose you subject wisely and make it count. If you post up more than one entry everyone will notice and you will be publicly ridiculed. For your submission please provide (1) a textured image as well as (2) a hidden line or xray/hidden line image so we can learn from your modeling techniques. The textured image will be used for the voting element of the challenge. Please also be considerate to members with slower connections and submit a maximum 1000 x 800 pixel image. Again, public ridicule will ensue if you violate this and your image will be removed. Your image is to be SketchUp output only please. Yes you can use the Styles with SketchUp; no you cannot post a rendering using Twilight, Thea, Vray etc… Finally, as enthusiastic as some of you are about rendering and sharing please do not post any renderings in the gallery or post models in the component forums as they could solicit votes. The community will vote for their favorite entry once the competition has ended and the winner will choose the next theme. Have Fun! Competition closes on August 20th at 2pm GMT

Re: Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - RetroI know I am gonna regret this but. . .It's been a while since I have participated. I always bite off more than I can chew when it comes to this stuff.
This is a model of the 1960's era Polaroid "Swinger" Camera. It would should little BW shots. Priced to the Youth Market at about $19.95--my older sister had one of these. You squeeze and turn the red shutter button. It would say "YES" inside the view finder. .. which i couldn't finish by the way, and then you'd shoot. Pull the film and Voila. .. A picture! Sorry it's not done, but 30 minutes means 30 minutes. Please, register (free) to access all the attachments on the forums. If I make it look easy. . .rest assured--it probably is.
Re: Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - RetroWhy'd you move the red dial?

Re: Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - Retrothis one looks like fun
Re: Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - RetroEDIT . .. Stupid Pointless comment below. . .
as I remember. . .and remember that I was only 10 or so years old back then . . . I think you would squeeze and turn the red knob to adjust light settings. Polaroids were very sensitive to that stuff. It would say "YES" when there was enough light to shoot and ta-da! This was mostly to be used by all the fun swingin', groovin' kids at the beach or the amusement park. . .out doors so there was no flash. I think later versions came with an optional flash thing. Bulbs of course. Last edited by David_H on Sun Aug 07, 2011 12:07 am, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - RetroUmmm, David, I think he was asking why you moved it from the front section of the camera to the main body.

Re: Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - Retrooh. . .That. . .
It's because I GOOFED--Okay??? I only had THIRTY MINUTES!!!!! I wasn't paying attention--allright?? File A lawsuit why don't ya'!!! jus kiddin' There. .. I feel better now. It's a two horse race so far anyway. . .and I'll still probably come in third. If I make it look easy. . .rest assured--it probably is.
Re: Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - Retroforgive me. . .I'm a bit sensative. I coulda said. . .
If I had designed it that's where I would've put the red button! If I make it look easy. . .rest assured--it probably is.
Re: Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - Retronice model david-I like it!
oh and obviously you moved the red dial because it is an improvement from the original design, right?
Re: Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - RetroDon't worry David, you're not the first man to have trouble understanding where to twiddle the little knob.

Re: Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - RetroTechnically it's a gadget holder. Doesn't matter what gender, the ultimate destination is held within.

Re: Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - RetroMissed the last one... Really nice theme... Here's my entry... Philco Predicta: Considered the most iconic TV design of all times with its swivel screen. Was launched in 1958 and discontinued in 1960 i think. Finding a working Predicta is very rare. Here's my attempt at it. The screen took most of the time. Just finished basic texturing. The image width is 800 but the height is 360 something...

Re: Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - RetroPete-viewmaster was my first idea, but I couldnt think of the name of it for the life of me so I couldnt find any images to build it off of! great models all around
Re: Speed Modeling Challenge #43 - RetroJust for clarification, is there a definitive time period limit? What is something was first introduced in the early 1900's but continued in popularity throughout the century. Would that be a legitimate model?
