Speed Modelling Challenge #38 - Fishing

Speed Modelling Challenge #38 - Fishing

Postby boofredlay » Tue Mar 22, 2011 5:16 pm

Anything to do with fishing

We should see a broad set of entries for this one.

The rules:

- 30 minutes maximum modeling time

- Unlimited preparation time for thinking, sketching, researching but NOT FOR MODELING

- Community will vote for favorite submission at competition end

- Multiple entries are allowed

- Please provide a Wireframe, an Untextured and a Textured image of your model (800x600)

- SketchUp output only

- Please be considerate to members with slower connections when submitting images (800x600)

- Any texturing should be done within the 30 minutes

- As enthusiastic as some of you are about rendering, kindly refrain from posting any renderings in the gallery as they could solicit votes, remember this is about modeling, not rendering

- Have fun!

Competition closes on April 6 2011 - 6:00 PM GMT

Here's mine. It's a simple minnow trap made out of two soda bottles.

Thanks. I fixed it. I've always wondered why I can't get my wires looking halfway decent. It's pretty sad that I haven't figured that one out yet. Thanks again.

Fishing hook (my favourite) and illustrated palomar knot. Figuring out the knot topology took some time.

Thanks, after figuring out the topology I first drew piecewise linear path that follows the knot, than I converted the lines to Tgi3D Bezier curves, taking care that the whole curve is somewhat smooth, then I performed a follow-me. Finally I removed the obvious solid overlaps with Tgi3D cross-section tool. Below is the original file...

A quick Lobster Pot.
The pot is just an array of one component.
The buoy is a stretched sphere and a torus and the rope a couple of squashed helix.

Thanks Eric, I think I used more of the 30 minutes for composition than modelling.

Thanks Michael. The source image I used had more and different detail that would have taken time. I made a video of it while I did this, I will upload it after the comp. is over (don't want to sway any votes).

Dang. . .you stole my idea. I saw a cartoon once called "fishing in the Mekong 1968" and this is what they used. . .so I was gonna model this.
