Most impressive SketchUp modellingRe: Most impressive SketchUp modellingLove that quarter sawn texture on the little clock and the clock is really a beauty.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingI dont want to be rude but some of these works are not... so impressive
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modelling
Thank you. I think it was you who made the quartersawn material. Inspecting mirrors is a job I could easily see myself doing.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modelling
Then what's the point of even commenting? Inspecting mirrors is a job I could easily see myself doing.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modelling
Like any art form, it's subjective to the eye of the beholder, not to mention the beholder's own skillset used as a frame of reference. Are we there yet?
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modelling
And dont forget this is also 'Most impressive SketchUp modelling' not rendering! All of the models displayed here are special I think! VISIT MY ONLINE GALLERY

Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingI wasn't only looking the render itself but also the model.
As the name of this topic is "MOST impressive sketchup modelling" then I realy hope to see MOST impressive modelling.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingWhy don't you offer something constructive?
Inspecting mirrors is a job I could easily see myself doing.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingI'm thinking Karl means some of the stuff shown is quite simple. Which is true, obviously. That said, "simple" and "impressive" aren't mutually exclusive, IMHO.

Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingThere is nothing wrong with a harsh critic. The worlds greatest achievers have had them all their lives or they would have no motivation. Thick skin helps. Be happy when your work is noticed. Practice the five point roll so when you fall down it doesn't hurt so much.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingI don't have any problem with a critique. I think it's a good thing if it is constructive. Vague comments like "not... so impressive" don't qualify as constructive criticism and comments like this aren't useful in any way in a thread like this with work from so many different people.
Inspecting mirrors is a job I could easily see myself doing.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingIt's a subjective topic. I find architecture, rendered or not, impressive as I'm not in that field. There's one particular member, tadema I think, has great models showing English cottages. Dave's furniture too is always something I enjoy viewing.
There's also stuff that I roll my eyes at that others get in a tizzy about. I choose not to comment unless asked for crits. But what I like most is members solutions to tricky shapes. Jeff Hammond's skatepark stuff where Elisei showed such a clever solution that continued to get refined just blew me away. None of this stuff is here but it's the things I bookmark as pure modelling. If you wanna see what I call genius at work, watch Kito Kraupp on YouTube. That's impressive to me. Wish my brain work like that!
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingI dont say that some of the models are not impressive because they are simple nor am I trying to say that they are bad, but what im trying to say is that you could find thousands of models from warehouse that are more impressive then some of the models here.
If these models can't impress me than how can they impress people who use 3ds, maya etc???
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingIt looks like this thread is turning into the debate we love...3ds, Maya.....lol..here we go.
At the moment there is more original thought pouring out of free SU than any other modeling app on earth. I would see that as a mighty threat wouldn't you.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modelling@CM
They're not solely to impress you I suppose. But have you offered your criticism in the original thread? A model/artist/hobbyist can improve through good critique. Imagine if I said that your tanks look crap. And left it at that. Wouldn't you like to know why I said they were crap. Or would you shrug your shoulders and move on? Personally I'd like criticism. It makes you strain your abilities. But your entitled to come on this thread and state your opinion and leave it at that. It makes 'no' difference to this threads content or purpose at the end of the day. All it does is drift away from the OP topic. @modelhead So true. SU is turning into the Swiss Army Knife of the 3G world.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modelling
Wow! I didn't know you were the final authority on what impresses people who use 3ds and Maya. Why would someone like me care about impressing those people? I don't really do anything with the intention of impressing anyone. If it does, that's great. @Rich, thank you very much for the nice words. Inspecting mirrors is a job I could easily see myself doing.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modelling
From my initial post: A collection of the best of the best that would impress most on people that are not aware of SketchUps capabilities. So he does have a point. This thread was created to gather some great examples of what SU can do so that I/you can point people complaining about SU beeing a "toy software" here and show "the best of the best". Enough complaining, keep posting, but only the best...

Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingSorry Pixero,
I come after the war and I have some things to say. First that I reprobate firmly the violent approach of CoreMaster110. What he had done here is not constructive criticism but he had come with the clear intention to be destructive. Can he shows us something of his job so impressive that we are going to acclaim? Secondly we know that a very pure and may be simple shape can be very hard to achieve. May be very much more than a vast complex model only made with thousands of pushpull acts. So before make a quick judge, first try to imitate Thirdly, men that can and must be criticized are those who had posted the works which had hold their admiration. In any cases the authors who do their job with all their heart, skill, talent and generosity are to be not denied .. As I have chosen to post a lot of the last reports, CoreMaster110 if you have something to add come one, come to me by PM and stop bumping this nice thread. simon. Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingWow, wow, wow. I may not necessarely agree with CoreMaster, but 'violent', 'clear intention to be destructive'? Let's not overreact here. This is a forum, there's bound to be disagreement.

Re: Most impressive SketchUp modelling
Instead of arguing if posted images are good enough, please post one or two of those warehouse model images YOU are impressed by. To all, now try to get this thread back on track.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modelling
Coremaster models: -> -> pictures removed(by myself) @stinkie my words are rude yes. But please read under the lines and look how Dave had been touched.... Despite there where no personal attack. *s PS: @pixero +1: that's what I was meaning Last edited by simon le bon on Sun Jan 30, 2011 11:10 am, edited 3 times in total.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingOk whatever I lost. I dont want to argue anymore. and I'll STFU!
@simon le bon why did u but these pictures of my models here??? these were not meant to be impressive... and they are for a game.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingThere are 'no' losers in an honest debate. I think your comment was taken personally because we all know the personality behind each 'impressive' submission. And for some it's personality that is sometimes more impressive.
Your comment was correct just not in the right context at the right moment unfortunately.
Re: Most impressive SketchUp modellingFirst that "to plugin or not to plugin" thing, then this debate which is leading nowhere and is dangerously close to insulting IMHO... And now it would be the right time to chill out and to get back on track. It´s spoiling all the fun of enjoying some great work.
Not to mention it´s Saturday. Comfortably numb...
