Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SU
i'm not sure because i've never used windows for comparison.. there was an export test around here a while ago in which the macs were able to export jpgs at more than twice the size as windows but other than that, i haven't seen anything alluding to SU being better with OS X.. in fact, there are often things i see that work on PCs that i can't do. dotdotdot
Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUMY CONFIG : macbook pro - mid 2009 unibody 15" 4GbRam 512Mo 9600MGT HD500gb 5400rpm - snow leopard 10.6.1
I ve run the cube test with each graphic configuration on the same machine running sketchup pro 7.0, and results are quite surprising : 9400M : 5.336s - 27.4665s (shadows on) -- with SU7.1= 1.228 - 1.229(shadows on) 9600M GT : 5.327s - 27,669s (shadows on) --with SU7.1= 1.324 - 1.225(shadows on) I've run the same test with my architecture diploma file (40000m2 hotel+parking+many cars+trees and textures = 4mb files) 9400M : 6.572s - 99.579s (shadows on) --with SU7.1= 4.774 - 5.074(shadows on) 9600M GT : 6.601s - 101.156s (shadows on) --with SU7.1= 5.034 -5.225(shadows on) That confirms my impression, I can't notice any difference between running sketchup with 9400 and with 9600. And 7.1pro version is really impressive. related link (hardware recommendation) : http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=10750&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=285
Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUHere are results form Macbook Pro 13"
Strangely, I was getting 15-16 fps then I turned on shadows and it increased?? Please, register (free) to access all the attachments on the forums.
Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUMy results, first test with no shadows
This one with shadows on - core i7-860, 2.8GHz - 8 GB memory - Nvidia QuadroFX 1800 graphics card with 768 Mb memory - 1080 x 1920 screen, SU maximized - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit Please, register (free) to access all the attachments on the forums. securi adversus homines, securi adversus deos rem difficillimam adsecuti sunt, ut illis ne voto quidem opus esset
Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUsweet...
and the GPU is an NVidia Quadro FX 770M... is that any good? oh and with shadows off, the time was 1.141. Average frame=0.016 sec., 63.1 fr/s Please, register (free) to access all the attachments on the forums.
Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUOk. Not sure how to do screen shots but I will just give you the info.

Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUNew Imac 27 inch as spec'ed here http://store.apple.com/nz/configure/MB9 ... TM3NjczMzI with 8Gb Ram & i7 processor. Running SU 7.1 on Snow Leopard.
Shadows on - (47-53*) frames per second Shadows off - 22 frames per second** compared to old G5 PPC Dual 2.3Ghz, with 2.5Gb RAM NVidia GeForce 6600 GPU Shadows on - 30 frames per second Shadows off - 14.6 frames per second and 1st gen Macbook Pro - (ATI Radeon X1600 2Ghz Intel Core Duo, 2Gb Ram Leopard, SU 7.1) Shadows on - 27.3 frames per second Shadows off - 9.2 frames per second Pretty impressive improvement I guess, but can't help wondering what the Mac Pro might be capable of... No software/OpenGL issues yet to report but will post back if I find any.... *Is SU caching something here? Upon repeated testing I'm getting different results (shadows on = same as shadows off & frame rate increases to 53), even after closing SU and reopening Test file... Am I missing something here? **The results on the Imac back up Jopperman's results with similarly spec'ed Graphics card (512Mb difference on GPU) and RAM but on a different operating system and other hardware specifically CPU... Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUDell M6400 with NVIDIA Quadro FX2700.
Stats went up after I went into the NVIDIA control panel and changed the 3d settings to 'Let Application Control' or somesuch. Please, register (free) to access all the attachments on the forums.
Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUAnyone got a new Mac Pro to test?
Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUFor reference I just tested my Asus Eeepc running XP and SU7.1.
The test shows it is pretty slow but it all works if you want something portable.. I've opened two very high poly models, and they certainly orbit and zoom quite happily, I imagine any work on them would take forever though. Opinions are like wives.

Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUI hate to say it.. but I will.
I seem to be "smoking" all you fellers. Here's my score. BTW - I am running Vista Ultimate with 4 Gigs Ram and 2x (PCIE SLI) Nvidea 8800GT's "EDIT" .. I guess I haven't "smoked" everyone. I didn't notice there are 6 pages to this Thread ..... DOH ! Please, register (free) to access all the attachments on the forums.

Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUHey,
Anyone try this test with SU8 yet? I"m interested to see speed compared to 7.1 Thanks, Glenn
Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SU
tried. does not work, get an argument error. looks like the file / code will need to tweak.
Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SURan it successfully on SU7.1 and SU8. Medion akoya MD97310 (from Aldi). 15.4 fps on SU7.1. 27.6 fps on SU8.

Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUHow come my old dusty machine is performing rather well? / what am I doing "wrong"?
(PC=5.5 years of age, almost retired) Micromaxx/Medion AMD Athlon 64/3000+ Clockspeed 2.00GHz 1.5GB NVIDIA GeForce FX5700 With SU8 pro (didn't test SU7) and testing the original file: 1) nothing changed (hidden geometry and shadows off) => around ~62.7 frames/second (shadows on didn't seem to matter that much, same results => ~62.5 frames/second) 2)edges+profiles on, hidden geometry (and shadows) displayed => ~35.8 frames/second ~ indicates that I did run the code line multiple times. After changes to settings like 'hidden geometry' only the first run drops down frame rate. After that a constant higher rate as stated above.

Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUwo3dan
So much for all the hype about new machines. Are you running on a AGP_ bus also? Try toggling the transparency select on the face styles and see if it makes much difference. It did for me fussion It appears you are running too slow for these test conditions. Do you have problems with model display?? Suggest you run the GLview 322.exe and see what type of OpenGL you really have. Also toggle the transparency on the face styles and see if that makes any difference for you. My testing showed the extents of the model play a roll. Make sure to hit zoom extents before running test

Re: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SUWow, some unusual results here. I've had some discrepancy between Sketchup v.8.0.4811 and Sketchup v.7.1.6860
Under v.7.1.6860 I got: But under v.8.0.4811 I got: After some troubleshooting, I found that disabling "Enable Transparency" in the Styles window gave this result in v.8.0.4811: Its unusual, I disabled "Enable Transparency" under 7.1.6860 and there was no noticable difference in the animations performance, but this is different for 8.0.4811. I'm not sure what is going on here but for consistency in results I think the style in the file should be updated to disable the transparency. Here's my stats: Mac Pro (1,1) with a modified 8 core x5355 @ 2.66 GHz (2 processors) 16gb DDR2 ECC ram Ati Radeon HD 5770 (apple version) SATA II Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Please, register (free) to access all the attachments on the forums.
