Has to be a real video game/console?

I imagine you can model a console of your own design if you wish, but i think if you want to model game content it should be from an existing game.

This is not an entry. . .more like an inspiration piece since I did it a long time ago (and it doesn't meet the rules anyway), but . . .it's kinda fun.

Space invaders

Ok, been reading these forums for a while and enjoy getting a bit creative with these challenges. I'm not experienced at all with Sketchup but here's my first post and entry. Mostly flat stuff but it still took me 30 mins. without coloring. That's why the laserbeam is just a cilinder. Ran out of time trying to cut it into several bursts, let alone making one of the invaders explode. Had fun though :D

This one was tough even though I knew exactly what I wanted to model. I took it seriously and printed out photos and sketched on paper what each component would look like - I even had a rough timeline to follow divided into 5 minute milestones - I am way too ADD. 20 minutes in it was obvious things were not going to follow that plan so I just hacked the last greebies and doodads and abandoned my plans for an elaborate neon grid set and the cycle light tails . 30 minutes (I used every second) goes really quickly when you're used to wasting hours on every detail. Is it OK to use plugins when you're making your model because I couldn't have done this without the rounded corners one. I'm resorting to the "duplicate one model several times to hide how messy that model is" approach again.

PS - I spent more than an hour after the challenge reworking the model to make it fit for the warehouse (and it's still messy): http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ ... 6b91d5c8c7

With only 6 minutes left, it was just not enough to model a quick Mario.

Dangit! Went over by 15 minutes. Spent too much time on the fillets... is there a better way to do fillets on the corners? It turned out alright though...

Now I have to come up with a different concept!

Ooooooookay...This one only took me 30 min. I would have liked to redo the bottom of the stem, but ran out of time!

Enjoy!

Love the round edge plugin - a great way to give a simple model depth as well.

actually i was refering to this one viewtopic.php?f=180&t=20485#p171721 ,round corner. from my understanding its an upgraded version of round edge.

Wow guys, thanks!
I had an older version of Round Edge, but it looks like it's been significantly improved! I'm going to download this now. It seems like that's a much better solution for microbevels on the edges than just "softening" them.

But, the real time sink on the controller was generating the fillets on the 2d rectangles, and the profiles for things prior to extrusion. Is there a script that will round the corners of a 2d shape? Much like the fillet command in ACAD? OR a better technique?

I used this process: draw rectangle, draw arc in one corner, add construction lines to define distance of arc (since I eyeballed it to start), then mirror x-lines around to the other sides of the rectangle, draw three more arcs, erase extra edges, done! Slow, huh?

Thanks!

UPDATE:
Just found this awesome set of tools, does exactly what I was looking for!

This is my son's favorite game. . . .to date. Personally, I have never participated. I'm an acoustic man myself.
