Re: Speed Modelling Challenge #16 KitesDang. . . I hate being first.
Once again. . .delving into my childhood. I loved kites ,but what I loved even more were balsa Rubber band driven gliders. that and little army men in parachutes. . .so since anything that flies counts. . . VOILA! the 49 cent Balsa wood airplane--that is. .. it was 49c back in 1967 or so . . .and I saved for a week to buy it and then break it in a half an hour. Re: Speed Modelling Challenge #16 KitesI just love that little flyer you made davey. I had a few myself, same vintage. They really flew quite a long way.

Re: Speed Modelling Challenge #16 KitesHehe. I like it.
Too bad the image is a bit low resolution. Gai...
Re: Speed Modelling Challenge #16 KitesNot really me but Jean. He does kiting (do you say this?) regularly and even as a sport! (And now he's also back)
Gai...
Re: Speed Modelling Challenge #16 KitesWhen I was young and foolish I flew a high performance hang glider in Quebec a few times. I always stopped there on my way out to Newfoundland where all the great flying spots are. Jean and I probably crossed (flight) paths.
Re: Speed Modelling Challenge #16 KitesI couldn't resist. . . I just got too nostalgic. . .Of course we had to tape a quarter or something to the bottom of the army guy to create the weight.

Re: Speed Modelling Challenge #16 KitesI couldn't keep the little guy untangled.
Re: Speed Modelling Challenge #16 Kitesactually, neither could I. He would always just fall like a rock. But we always remember things better than they were.

Re: Speed Modelling Challenge #16 KitesMy daughter has a bunch of those. They work great if you shoot them out of a slingshot.
Re: Speed Modelling Challenge #16 KitesYou'll have to forgive the newbie as I've only just joined the forums but I was intrigued to try speed modeling as I usually spend hours tweaking the details of my models. I would have added tails but I didn't have enough time - I duplicated the single kite into a train like we see all time here in San Francisco at Mariana green, Ocean Beach or in the park in Berkeley by the bay. I thought it might disguise the fact that the kite I made is so simple

Re: Speed Modelling Challenge #16 KitesNot the most dynamic composition... but I liked the concept...
Finished modeling at around 18 minutes and messed with textures, cameras, styles, and other scene settings, looked up and my time was gone!! Setting the scene was the real pain. The table is modeled from scratch too. Enjoy! Please, register (free) to access all the attachments on the forums.
