Fredo, the Taper function looks killer! If it does the job on Nested Components and Groups as well, then people don't have to explode the geometry anymore to perform a Free Form Deformation on it.
The only thing I didn't understand about the YouTube video was when you scaled that ship. What were you demonstrating there?
Coen, Thanks for your encouragements. Taper Scale should work on nested components and groups, but it has to make all components unique and explode all curves. So it's a little bit destructive. No mystery, Tapering is not a transformation that can preserve the unicity of a single definition for components (same rule as for Sketchy FFD). For my ship, the purpose was just to show that Free Scale can handle large models full of components and groups, because it is actually just based on regular Scaling. Free Scale is not destructive at all, in contrast with TaperScale. Otherwise nothing special. Fredo

Fredo: This is the ruby console result when I enter the commands:
Traductor.string_to_length "20" nil "20".to_l 7.8740157480315 Traductor.string_to_float_formula "20" 20.0
I attach a screenshot too.

Daniel,
I still don't see what it could be, and why you have it specifically in your environment.
Just in case, I made a slight change in LibFredo6. So you have to re-install it again and check if it improves. Can you try?

I tried with the new version of LibFredo6 but have no luck... still can`t use the dimension dialog box. But i find something strange in my Plugins directory: there is a new folder called "DEFPARAM_Dir" and is empty. I delete this folder, but every time that I open a new SketchUp it creates the folder again. I never had this folder before.

Daniel, I think I know what it could be. I guess you have a set up where you should use the comma as the decimal separator. I made a change in LibFredo6. Maybe it will clear the issue. Thanks for your patience. PS: DEFPARAM_Dir is just the place where my scripts (today only FreeScale) stores the default parameter. It is a separate folder so that the parameters are not lost when upgrading.

Now works!!!... but not well!! I don`t know how to explain it in english but i attach a video showing that it dosen´t scale well (i put 30 and the result is 76,200cm). But now works!! Thank you for looking into this, Daniel S. PS. It must be only my problem because I remeber in the past I had problems with TIG`s slicer... was working for everyone but not for me and then he fixes the problem and said that was a problem about the comma.

Daniel, My fault in the update. Can you make a last try for today with the update I made in LibFredo6. Thanks again for your patience. Fredo

I'm having some issues with the taper scale working on my machine. FreeScale works fine, and TaperScale does not redraw the polygons after I use the TaperScale tool. I can see the polygon shape distort in wireframe preview mode. Any Ideas?

Can you confirm that you have the problem even on a simple cube (drawn from a Rectangle and Push Pull)? If so, is it correct that: - the Box with the small pad is OK - when you drag the handle, the wireframe appears correct - But when you click or release to finalize, you get NO deformation Just in case, could you drop the attached file in te LIBFREDO6_Dir_30 folder, restart Sketchup, turn on the Ruby console and try again. Thanks Fredo

Thanks fredo!
After installing the updated script, taper scale works beautifully.
I feel like I owe you a bottle of scotch, or something.
Awesome script!

Very strange. The change I made is purely in the syntax. I wonder why there was a problem on Mac. But, what matters is that it works. Let's wait for confirmation from other Mac users before opening the bottle ! Fredo

To Mac Users
By the way, I am interested to know how the dialog boxes for Default Parameters behave on Mac. Does it even work? Same for the Translation web dialog box.
Thanks

thanks Fredo
I'm a mac user (os 10.4.11) free scaling works well for the moment even when you specify new dimension(pop-up window), but when tapering SU quite immediatly.
To be continue.

maybe I am confused, but I never get a pop up window of any kind.
I can, however, customize the dimensions just as I would with the SU scale.
Is there a command to bring up the dialogue pop-up?
What a kick ass script!

Coen Naninck wrote:Fredo, I just now tried your script, but can't get it to work. I extracted both zip files, both having a file and a folder, to my plugins directory. At startup I get this error: - Code: Select all
Error Loading File ZLoader__FreeScale.rb C:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 7/Plugins/LibFredo6.rb:30: syntax error def LibFredo6.startup ^
I must add that I am running SketchUp 7 on Ubuntu, which is a Linux distribution, with WINE (a Windows layer that allows for Windows apps to run on Linux). But as you can see it creates a C drive, so I don't think this is the problem.
Coen, For sure I did not test this platform! The error you get is very strange, because it signals a syntax error in a statement which is purely Ruby. And at the stage it reads LibFredo6, nothing of my scripts has been loaded yet. In order to know more, could you turn the Ruby console on, and then type - Code: Select all
load "LibFredo6"
Thanks Fredo PS: if you continue getting an error, could you comment out lines 24 and 25 of LibFredo6. Fred

I'm about to kiss you Fredo!! I just discovered that it works in a specifics lines selections from an organic mesh...This is getting better and better!
So yes the plugin works flawless in my PC with Windows Vista 32 Bits.
P.S.: You do realize that you acomplished something the sketchup team couldn't in God-knows-how-much-time-and-sketchup-versions and your ruby just turns the skethcup scale tool completly obsolete right?
Again: many thanks for this script
David

Fredo,
Big thanks for such amazing tool! I have watched the video and was almost sure you will release it as a commercial plugin. Do you have a Paypal account? I believe many would like to express their gratitude.
Thank you Tomasz
