Most impressive SketchUp modelling

Most impressive SketchUp modelling

Postby Pixero » Sat Dec 18, 2010 9:04 am

I read a post at the Unity3d's forum where a guy wrote: "I'm tired of using Google sketchup pro 8 cause that can't make anything good."
I wrote an answer and posted a few great model images I found here, but I started thinking...
What if we posted the most impressive SketchUp models we've seen. All in this thread. Could be our own or others.
(With the modelling in focus, not rendering.)

A collection of the best of the best that would impress most on people that are not aware of SketchUps capabilities.

I'll start off with the images I posted in my reply to him:

Axeonalias Beam Trawler "Sea Lady"

Silver shadows HMS Snowberry

Silver shadows The river runs through it.

You cannot leave out this Massive starship by Ken. :o That is of course, if it's alright with him. ;) If you add it, make sure to show multiple views to showcase the tremendous amount of detail and talent involved.

A brilliant idea Jan. I'll bookmark this page, whenever I have another rant elsewhere on the net, about how good SU is. Perhaps someone should post this link to 3D World too (whose readers seem to think that 3DS Max or ZBrush are the only modellers worth considering?)

I think this is a great idea, but I have to point out that the pictures mustn't be added by attachment, so our forum guests could see them. Also I think this topic brings up the old story of the necessity of a showcase gallery

And all unrelated post should be deleted, by only leaving pictures with the description :D

Yeah this is a great idea im fed up of people saying how awful sketchup is and not worthy to compete with the other software such as 3ds and maya I have this argument constantly on scifimeshes.com.

I think Im going to make a page on my blog for the best of the best sketchup models feel free to link people to that page as it will be just images thet everybody can view!

And of course ill credit each image with the creator etc

I've tried to learn 3DS, Maya and Blender. Even Lightwave!

SketchUp is the only one I have been able teach myself to use. It also puts less demand on my PC.

Does it animate very well? No. Does it render very well? Oh hell no. What is DOES is make creation faster and more intuitive than anything I've seen yet in the last 20 years.

I really wish I had more time to spend with it. Especially seeing what can be done by the experts around here.

A real gallery would be awesome, something that could be easy to link to and easy to view. I'm also very tired of hearing sh*t about SU and want to have something handy and user friendly to point to and shut the beeeep...ers up.

The last time somebody attacked SU I nearly burst a blood vessel.
try to switch to a proper 3d software. Google sketchup it's a joke 3d software, a wannabe software. So get serious man :)

I replied with a somewhat lengthy message but the gist of it was:
Oh and while I'm on it...why do always 3ds maxers , maya users etc feel so threatened by this app that they need to hijack a thread?

While I do enjoy interesting discussions it gets irritating to be criticised for the software I use instead of the modelling mistakes the bad rendering and the design of the car, ship, house, etc.

Anyway, one of the most impressive models for me is ELY's Buick GSX

Sorry about that, he did have the same pics on SCF but needed a bit of digging.
I've changed the links, take another look.

And also his Nissan is pretty impressive. Definitely shows that SU is not as backward as some think.
