Sticky Posts

Postby Dan Rathbun » Sun Aug 21, 2011 12:30 am

Just a thot.. IMHO the Sticky posts do not stand out from the other posts in the forums. (nor do the Announcements, although they have their own section at the top of each forum.)

I see too many times, where newbies come into the Developers Forum, and ask many questions or query for information sources... that are all answered already in the Sticky Posts.

I think it would be nice if the Sticky Posts background was different than just white. Perhaps the same background color that the Options/Attachment/Poll sections (on the Edit pages,) are. It's a pastel blue.

Would this easy or hard ??

I have been browsing some addons and there are some that allow these fancy colorizations and such. Maybe we could try one.

IMO however some people never read or search the forums but post right away. :roll: In the Google Help Forums, the system even offers topics once a member starts writing a post (after all, this is what Google is good at: search results). Do you think most of them ever read?

It would be nice to see the forum that the question has been posted in more clearly sometimes.

I'm sure many people have seen an easy question and helpfully answered it only to find it was in Developer or Layout etc.

A little repetition on the forum is not a bad thing. It can provide opportunities to rethink our methods and discover new insights and ways of working in SketchUp.

Well, if we can id the class of the "Stickies" setting a background color in the css should be an easy thing... trying to integrate a PHPbb extension with all the dependencies can be a nightmare.

True this! And then again.. Sticky posts in the forums are not that great a way to present educational information. (It is really a pain to edit large informational posts in this little edit box. I really, really wish the edit box would expand vertically as the lines get longer, rather than be set to a max height. The max-height should be set to auto. I'm sure I asked for this before.)

Anyway.. back to Educational pages. Did someone say SCF now has wiki-like section for this?

Something like this, appended to the bottom of "whatever" css stylesheet would seem to be easier than messin' with an phpBB extension.

#DCE1E5 is the background-color of the "Options" and "Upload attachment" panels (on Edit pages.)

Code: Select all
/*CSS Sticky post links*/
ul.topiclist li.sticky { background-color: #DCE1E5; }

Interesting that this discussion pops up right after I tried to give RockerKevin some info on downloading plugins on a Mac. I searched for Dave R's thread on zipped plugins, both in the Search box and then through Board Index looking for the likely Forum to find the thread because I knew that Someone had revealed the unique filepath for a mac in there. Well, I found it in Index Title "Plugins" and down on the list. Of course, I can get really thick, right when I don't need to, as in trying to quickly offer a solution. :mrgreen:
