[REQ] Follow path

Postby solo » Mon May 23, 2016 3:56 pm

I do not know if this is possible or on the plan for future, however I need to be able to get a component to follow a path.

As example here is a car:

And I need it to follow a path that adheres to a terrain:

Think it can be done?

And after that is achieved I'd also love to have a camera track the moving car if possible.

Both are planned
- Follow path for movements (on-path, or at-offset)
- Follow path for Camera
There will be also some predefined paths (like circular, circum ellipse, etc...).

I also plan to include the Tracking cameras (i.e. attached to an object).

For Movements, I also plan to allow transformations captured in Sketchup with the native tools and Plugins. Although this is not 100% parametric, especially with rotations combined with scaling, this can be exploited with some discipline.

When I have a stable version for the framework, I will include them.

While not a path, here is a very old one where I tracked the car going through the car wash.

This was done by capturing several views during the animation. Thought I had a better one but could not find it.

Fantastic news.

I was trying to figure out the 'save position of objects' button, does that work like a keyframe animation?

No, this is just:
- a safety belt, in case your model is messed up
- a way to assign a given position of object to an Animation Film
- a way to save or use the model in an intermediary animation stage outside of Animator

By the way, I built a Tip and Tricks thread which gives some explanations on a few functions. So it might be useful to have a look. Not finished however.

Are you planning to make it possible that the camera moves along one path and look at points on another path? Like for example moving sideways while panning left or right.
